It's all very odd, as of course in theory Tom Bower spoke to Bernie, got details from Bernie etc about his life for the book. Then the book was published and Bernie denied it all, said it was rubbish etc. However more recently Bernie seems to have partied with Towm Bower and Simon Cowell in relation to the Simon Cowell book that is now out.
Personally I think the book is worth 99p however as with anything written about Bernie you have to take everything with a pinch of salt!

The book is interesting. Not sure I believe everything in it, but then you can never believe everything where Bernie is concerned.
It will paint him in a different light for some I think.
Far as Bernie dismissing the book, I've got no doubt he did speak to the author and then denied it all, in fact when did Bernie ever admit to anything ?
For 99p its a no brainer. I'd got the other book that came out about the same time to read too, that one comes with Bernies blessing.

Having read and enjoyed the book, I think it is worth is full price.
Clearly Susan Watkins is “a close friend” and that alone shows Bernie in a different light. The guy is an utter b
d to most of us, but within his circle he is a valued, honest and sincere friend.
Prior to reading the book, I had thought of him as a jumped-up car trader, mainly because of how the press has wanted to portray him over the years, but he did compete in the F3 race at the very first GP at Silverstone despite coming from the very humblest of backgrounds. His ability to close impossible deals is incredible, but his motivations are still an enigma - he does not need the money. The book does openly detail how he crapped on good people like Gordon Murray, and others – even Sid (Watkins).
I really do recommend this book. It is not an easy read, but just the way it sets out his considerable achievements and personal failings is remarkable. If you have seen any of the ESPN classics of races in the 70s and also seen what F1 is today you will easily recognise Bernie’s achievements!

Bower clearly knows Jack about F1 and motor racing so don't expect decent race reports. But the book is worth buying for an insight into Bernie's life/way. Some of the details are interesting, some is fluff but I never judge a book by its price as I believe you can never have too many books.
