996 Turbo - Sports Exhaust
Discussion
I've been toying with the idea of fitting a sports exhaust for some time. I've been advised by someone who's apparently in the know that if I fit a Milltek 100 or 200 CEL cat that I'll need a remap, otherwise the car will "over fuel" (whatever that means)!
Is it correct that I'll need a remap?
Has anyone fitted a sports exhaust on a 996 Turbo without having had a remap and if so were did you experience issues?
Should add that I'm not really interested in increasing bhp, car's plenty quick enough without remapping. Just want a better exhaust note having come from C2 with PSE

I have an aftermarket sports exhaust (cargraphic which I think are 200CEL cats) and have NOT had the car remapped, no CEL's and its been through about 3 MOT's since I've fitted it with no issues either.

You may still damage the engine though. Totally different car, but on my old Scooby putting sports cat in without a remap would cause it to boost spike.I have an aftermarket sports exhaust (cargraphic which I think are 200CEL cats) and have NOT had the car remapped, no CEL's and its been through about 3 MOT's since I've fitted it with no issues either.
I've had zero issues since fitting a Ruf 200 cell system to mine Stubbsy. Ruf estimate a increase of 12-15bhp, probably due to the lower cell rating and their internal mods, so I'm guessing other systems might offer similar gains, which is always a bonus on top of a better sound
I would have thought buying a lower cell rated exhaust would come with an advisory for a re-map if it were the case any damage could be caused.

You do not need to remap the car to fit an exhaust unless you fit a catless exhaust but even then you just turn off the sensors!
If you want a nice sound then I would steer away from milltek and go for something like an FVD system or a Europipe stage 2 loud!
Thanks everyone for your input. If you want a nice sound then I would steer away from milltek and go for something like an FVD system or a Europipe stage 2 loud!
Milltek was recommended as best value for money with nice sound - can get one fitted for approx £2,500. There was a previous thread on best exhaust for Turbo and everyone that had one had only good things to say.
FVD and Europipe v nice but expensive!
