I find i can never fill the 450 up completely with fuel.

Even if i brim it at the petrol station, let it settle for a few seconds then trickle some more in etc.

By the time i get home it will take a bit more from a can and even then when i brim it and it appears full if i come back a day later it will take some more!

Is this normal because of the two tank set up or is it indicative of a breather or something blocked?

Cheers

My previous Wedge, when filled to the top, would leak out of the overflow situated on the opposite side to the filler cap at the rear of the car. Not always apparent at the filling station, but rather when driven a distance. My current Wedge however just leaks from underneath when overfilled, probably because the overflow is not attached, or not attached properly. Another little job I need to sort out. What I'm trying to say, is, maybe, you're loosing some fuel out the overflow when driven.

Hi Jimbo..There is a breather thats about 2" down from the opening of the filler neck..The pipe goes to the back of the N/S rear wheel..Each tank should take around 7 gallons each = 60-63.56ltrs..Remember that the fuel senders are not always that accurate..Ziga

Filled my 400se up with fuel, and noticed petrol leaking out of the pipe as some of you described, quite worrying considering said pipe is close to hot exhausteek

I can't say i've ever noticed any evidence of a fuel leakage tbh.

Always seem to have 2 thirds of a tank when 'full' , so she probably does more to the gallon than I imagine ie 15 instead of 12 !!

Always have this "problem" too but putting the cap on, giving the car a few good rocks, and filling it up that bit more helps.

Makes people look at you weird too! smile

Got the same prob with the SEAC, cant seem to get it past 3/4 onthe gauge but never had fuel leaking out from the breather.
Fuel hitting a hot exhaust with not go on fire just evaporate, it needs a spark or a naked flame to go up.
Would love to see what the tanks will take in total as i was told the SEAC's have slightly smaller tanks...
I do use the rocking action to help the gogo juice go in. hehe

From a previous post I placed on TVRCC....

"Took a detour to work and found a small local garage (rural Herefordshire) with only a couple of cars on the forecourt. Decided to fill up - bit too greedy and filled too close to the top of the filler neck......went and paid....came out and saw petrol lake under car !!.
Breather/overflow on the old 350's tucked up high between tanks, was p***ing fuel.
Garage owner running around like headless chicken, worrying that the whole garage was going to go up in a blaze of glory.
Resolved by catching the fuel in a shallow container and waiting for it to run dry..............then an excuse to give it a final blast to work, via another detour, to lower the level a bit more.
A slightly more expensive day than planned, but anytime in the tiv is worth it.
Roar on !"

I have a similar story but it was me that was flapping like a one winged ostrich..I popped in to my local petrol station last year and stuck £40 in..There was a little bit of a que but i was in and out in a minute..When i came out to the car there was a puddle surrounding the whole car!..When i looked underneath i could see it pouring out of the pipe that goes to the accumulator..I drove it 12 miles like that to the garage that fitted the pump..When i got there he got it up in the air on the ramp pretty quick and grabbed a container to catch the fuel in and as he put it under it stopped, I think he caught about a 1/3 of a pint..I worked it out to about 1.74 MPG..eek..You could see a petrol trail behind me, I was dreading someone flicking a fag butt out the window and had visions of being chased by a line of flames... hehe

This is a well known issue with the Wedge and is down to the two tank design. If the breather between the tanks is gunned up or bent over you will only be able to 3/4 fill the car due to air locks between the filler tank and the other. A quick check and blow thru will normally sort the general problem but giving time to get the fuel in and allow the air bubbles to find there way out is one of the things we all love with these cars. The other thing is that if you fill the car with trapped air in it and park on a slight slope the fuel will evacuate through the breather, atmospheric pressure and gravity are a wonderful thing!
