Spotted on the way home last night, a Hercules buzzing around (very low)South Cerney. So we followed it and discovered it was over Fairford and Flying along the runway doing a large circle and repeating.
It appeared to have a flag n the tail which I think might make it a US aircraft as opposed to one of our's from Brize ?
So we sat and watched it a few times and even got a wave from someone up front on one of the passes.

I thought that Fairford was pretty much in moth balls unless for RIAT ? but one of the hangers was open door (partially) and on the drive in, we spotted quite a few US uniforms wakling into the base ?

Also if we were to buy a flight scanner would it have been any use ? and if so, does anyone have any recommendations on what to look for on the 'bay

cheers
Paul

Military aircraft usually use UHF so you would need to look for an airband radio that has UHF frequencies.

My friend (who works on Hercs) lives on Fairford. Apparently there are some US Hercs in ahead of joint exercises over the coming weeks.

Correct, the Hercs are from the USAF base at Ramstein.
