But in 12 years of knocking around Griffs it's true they can flatten a battery in 2-3 weeks.

How much juice had you put into new battery? If not a lot 8 days is more than possible.

The immobiliser/alarm even when disarmed can still take current from the battery. Another culprit is the passenger footwell light relay/timer(yellow usually on the relay/fuse panel), they can also drain the battery if faulty. You could try and measure the current drain with everything apparently switched off.

I fitted a high current battery plug/socket in the engine bay to:

1. Isolate everything

2. Charge the battery rather than grovel in the footwell

i've an isolator fitted too, in the flat panel in front of the battery. saves pulling the footwell apart every time you want to tinker and need to disconnect the battery.

I would 2nd this, the earlier the alarm the worse they are in my experience with automotive alarms frown

Even when you buy a new 'charged' battery it may not have more than 50% charge in it!!
Always put 'new' batteries on charge for a day before believing that they have a 'full' charge....
Optimate conditioner fitted in the boot works well for my 500.......
