There needs to be another option, just in case some users of my gym are on here - "To gently stroll on the treadmill for hours, whilst avoiding at all costs breaking into a sweat". Just go for a bloody walk! furious

Up until this week I would have said get fit, but then I found myself going to the gym to 'blow off steam' ie crap day at work and took it out on my body but hopefully in a kind of productive way. Not sure that makes sense.

Most of those, yes.

Perving - check.
Generating calorie credits to spend on booze - check.
Generally not wanting to be a lard arse - check.
More perving - check.

Talking to people? no, i draw the line at that.

In order of importance:

1) It makes you feel better, mentally (critical)
2) You look better
3) You're overall fitter

This. It helps me stay vaguely fit for Rugby and the associated heavy drinking

I tend to go about 3 or 4 times a week so i can justify the 670 pounds a year !

Sometimes theres some real eye candy there .

I enjoy the gym and the swimming and the steam room .

I tend to go because at the tender age of 40 now i eat , have allways eaten what i like and havent really changed shape , but that is changing now , so that why i go to the gym.

I can't imagine having a lifestyle so inactive that I would need to go to the gym to keep fit.
Not having a dig at gym users, but there are plenty of enjoyable physical activities that don't cost hundreds of pounds a year.

Plenty if people use the gym for very specific sport training. I use a gym because I don't have a 25m pool for swimming at home. And interval training for running is more controlled on a treadmill than outside in the rain in winter.

Each to their own etc.

Took the words (but not the food) right out of my mouth.

Unhealthy food is delicious.

I used to go to a gym in Germany about 4 times a week.
Tai boxing aerobics was always my favourite, standing at the back with my mate with about 20 lovelys in front and performing in a fully wall and ceiling mirrored room.
I used to get very sweaty. smile

I go to bulk up, its virtually impossible for me to put on weight. My protein consumption each day could probably be measured in 'chickens' rather than 'grams'. And I spend 4 hours every Monday Wednesday and Friday at the GYM. Yet i have barely gained any weight.

You're probably over-training if your goal is to bulk up.

No doubt about that. Anything over an hour each session is too long for building. He is probably not getting enough carbs/fat either if he's swallowing several chickens a day.
