After reading this months issues of EVO and Car and previous mags, Im just thinking, pound for pound, is the Megane Renaultsport Cup (or trophy) the best value and most capable performance car out there. I mean £24K in the case of the cup buys a very quick car that will out lap much more expensive stuff and hang on to the coat tails of almost anything across country. Ok its not RWD but for less than half price of an M3 it does the job. Also, I notice the cheapest second hand examples are still over £16k, which means about 70% retained value over 2 years**. For a Renault thats amazing and even an M3 cant match that! What do Ph'ers think?

I have been out in one, and they truly are emmense. Just look at the nurburgring lap time and compare the renault to some of the other cars which do it in the same time.
I have the clio version, 200 cup, and that goes well enough. The handling had me gobsmacked.

Incredibly capable cars for the money, very quick and sure-footed. It's always been a good looking car too, though the new ones are sadly quite rare around my way, though I did snap a photo of a lovely white Cup model last week, it's only the second or third one I've seen since they came out. I also really like the interiors on them too. Great cars, they get a big thumbs up from me.

Of course though, some will never accept it, they will hate it because it's "FWD", and was "never designed from the outset for speed" (which makes it's achievement even more impressive imo), it's not as "delicate" or "adjustable mid corner" as a RWD or you plain "can't use the speed anyway". bks to that, they are simply great cars.

I went for a fast ride in the passenger seat of a 07 megane sport one late night round some local A/B roads and a few roundabouts

There where times when I was absolutely certain we were going to go spinning off the road and die, however the car defy's the laws of physics, were it finds the cornering grip from I just dont know?? It was completely sureal, cornered like a scalextric car

Clio 200 is even better(and cheaper), although slower off course. But really terrific review for Megane 265, it has convincingly beaten all the best current Japan´s rear drive cars.

Have to admit the meg sport 250/265 seems to be a superb all rounder. As a 2nd hand buy it gives amazing bang for your buck. Any owners comment on the handling/ride comfort? I know they are quick but are they laggy at all? Also how are the interiors holding up with miles (rattles etc)

Mines got 12k on it and is pretty much rattle free. Build quality has certainly improved on Renaults. I've got the full leather recaros in mine which are great. Not had a chance to properly test it yet so will be looking to do a track day to see what it's capable of.

It's an extremely capable car - but is going fast around the track the be-all and end-all? You could have a BRZ/GT-86 for the money...

I love these, will make a great used buy in a few years when the prices have come down a little further. I think i would be stuck between this:

and BMW 135i
