My dad fancies a new 1 series when he retires in July. Car he is after is £24k with options, but broadspeed and the like can do them for £22000 with toys- do you think a dealer match this? Tried ringing round a few but they wont discuss over the phone which I found a bit odd...

Cheers for the help!

more like 12 imo hehe

ring them up and tell them you will be purchasing "car xyz in xyz spec" on xyz date at xyz time.

you would like their best price and get back to you before xyz to place their best price forwards as at xyz you will be purchasing xyz car

Seriously, if you want to talk about the price of a car you need to be standing in front of the salesman.

I believe What Car? magazine has a section which lists new cars with a "target buying price".

Just go in and be very upfront about it like you were on the phone.. If they try to waste your time just leave

(edit: I hope you didnt say your dad was looking to purchase! Make it much more straight forwards and likely to happen if 'you' are looking to purchase!!!)

Finding a dealer that will match a broker needs a bit of work, but is essentially a simple process.

1. Get price from broker (I prefer drivethedeal over broadspeed)
2. Call dealer, tell them you want to buy a car and have a price from a broker.
3. Explain to dealer that if they can match said price, then you will order there and then.
4. Repeat 2 & 3 until you find a dealer who will.

Don't bother unless you are actually ready to buy though. Unless you are ready to put money down then it's not really fair on the dealer/sales guy to take up their time.

What ever you do, dont say the 6 words in bold when dealing with the dealer or any other seller for the matter

I bloody hate people asking "whats your best price"

Start calling around. Even within a dealer group it will vary.

Much better for the actual buyer to be doing the talking than "I've got a friend/relation who wants to buy a car...".

Fingers crossed that they'll let you spend £22,000!?

If they aren't willing to deal find somebody who will!

Exactly, surely the dealers best price is likely more than the buyer wants to pay.

Don't just try 1 Sytner dealer though. Not all of them appear to have access to the same level of discount.
