if there is one, or at least hold its value reasonably well (and yes I know there is no real way of knowing, but where would you bet your money?)

Or asked another way, what used beastie is currently woefully undervalued...

BMW E34 M5 - cost of entry must surely rise in the coming years.

Except, the running costs will likely exceed any gain in value over that time period. Plus I doubt it will rise to big values as most are regularly used and therefore high mileage.

Something more sensible off the top of my head could be a MK1 Golf GTi. I know a few already break that barrier.

Luke.

Possibly a late, low mileage 166 3.2 V6 Manual Ti - (ironically!)

It absolute terms, probably quite a few with inflation at its current rate.

In real terms, probably none.

Good shout. Most of these mentioned would have already started going up if they were going to. People have been saying this about 944s and 928s forever, but they are still cheap (especially 928s).

Early, standard (or close to standard) Impreza Sti. The last of the nasty ones will be written off or scrapped in the next few years. These will then go the way of the Mini Cooper, Escort RS2000 etc - they all go through the "getting hammered by chavs" stage before they become accepted as classics. With a good competition record these have all the ingredients to get classic status.
