Rear Diffuser Version 4
Discussion
I started having another go at a mock up for the rear diffuser again today this time modifying the rear clip, i basically cut out the bottom bar, moved it up and cross brace to give it back its lateral rigidity.
here are some pics of the progress so far, please take into account that this is just a mock up at this stage, the finished item will once again be aluminium but will be fully welded.

the middle tunnel exit was just cut off my old diffuser, this has a forward facing vent which scoops up air from under the car, hopefully drawing hot air with it as it exits through the back, this pic also shows a mock up of the surround for the tail pipes, these will be a permanent fixture of the rear clip rather than being attached to the diffuser.

the below pic shows the fin templates in place, not the most functinal design but i wanted to get a good blend of looks and functionality.

back on with it tomorrow and should see it finished.

Chris it looks great but how about a centre exit exhaust, through the hole you've got there. That way you can have the upswept diffuser the full width.
I think it'd Make that whole lower area look nice and wide like the section between the rear lights.
I needed to keep that bit of clip either side where the tail pipes come out, this way i could keep the uprights for the IC box, thus making modification fairly simple. To be honest i also like the way the lines work, with the fins lining through with the IC box. I did like the idea of a centre tailpipe but then i would be left with these redundant areas where the tailpipes are at present.I think it'd Make that whole lower area look nice and wide like the section between the rear lights.
I have been working on this all day and it has come together really nice, but i forgot to take my camera, i will take some pics on monday of the rear clip.
It is all welded together now it just needs a bit of tidying up and painting. I must admit i am really pleased with how it is turning out.
The diffuser is fully functional on the car and driving home on the motorway i was not sure if it was my mind playing tricks but the car just felt more stable, but i suppose its like putting flights on an arrow.
I was wondering, with the fsatback mod, i imagine you could achieve good downfrce just from air flowing over the whale tail?
