vw Karmen ghia ?

Saw this today spoke to the guy who owned it and he said it was a replacement for the Karmen Ghia but it never sold well ...... nice rear Camber !

It's a driver so suspension not broken ,both sides the same lad only got it the day before and paid 5k for it .

yep, a razor edge. shame about the street-cred suspension. always thought a good 2.2 or 2.4 porker in one of these + correctly sorted suspension would be a fun toy...

Yup that's what he called it. a razor edge,only a young lad too from the look of him,he's not going to restore it as he's not into that kind of thing,just a bit of work and run it,passed its mot yesterday.

Did you manage to take a photo of the front as that is just a real marmite look; very different from my traditional Karmann Ghia? Would be great to see the reaction of the PH crowd! Unfortunately he has wound down the splines at the rear and the offset on the Cosmics means the kind of look I personally don't like, more a Cal-look person myself and the narrowed and lowered front end is matter of personal taste! I always think that from the rear they have the look of a Jenson but maybe alone in that one!!!

A very rare car even back in the day. Always tought they didnt look as good as the normal versions, and did not sell as well, But always made people do a double take, they did rust a bit so not many about and getting parts must be er a pain, having said that they all rusted.
Just in case you are looking at my TVR photo, I Bought a Karmann Ghia about 34 years ago, I still have it.

Looks like he's a lucky boy as there doesn't appear to be any tell-tale bubbling in the nose or front arches as I don't believe they are available. They readily rot and cost an absolute fortune!

I love them and one day I'll trade my convertible Karmann Ghia in and take the plunge.

Hi, me and the Karmann Ghia are in Milton, in Portsmouth. My mate has a coupe, and that along with my convertible Beetle are in Southsea so always happy to meet up and the kettle is always on. The other half is generally happy to put the kettle on providing we use the house to store any more parts! I am currently in the dog house for keeping the suspension in the dining room...along with three steering wheels and the all the carpets!!!

Excellent - I'm sometimes down that way when we go sailing out of Gosport. I've got my other car's dashboard laid out in the livingroom :-)

BTW - the Type 34's suspension camber in the original picture is because they use a swing axle. When you lower it, the wheels tilt like that. Although not as extreme, my car was similar when I got it. I'm in the process of raising it which can be done by rotating the torsion bars.

"Slammed" is, I believe, in the correct parlance.
Damn shame that really. Like a woman in her 70's in a too-short skirt!
Needs winding up to correct height. Looks like there is a lot of filler in the doors etc. Hope he looks after it. Probably will end up painted matt black with rattle cans for the "rat look" that is so popular for some strange reason.

You could always make him an offer to buy it and return it to stock if it bugs you that much? As my Mum always says, if you've got nothing nice to say, say nothing at all

On and not all VW's end up matt black you know...
