TVR power to a Nitrous kit for about £1500. Takes the power of a 4l upto close that of a 5L
Hmm...close?????? more like more!!!!
for a minute or two.
fair point, but then new heads, chip, plenum, trumpets & cam have the same effect after the bottle runs out
Hi Pies,
Have you thought about the jag air flow meter route, coupled with a rising rate fuel regulator. A set of ACT short trumpets would be nice, but their carbon fibre plenum is a bit expensive for me.
Personally I am thinking about running a Siamesed plenum with two opposed inlets welded down the centre, routing the plumbing via a jag air flow meter and rising rate fuel regulator, possibly with some short “act style trumpets” to aid air flow. With a Mark Adams chip I would expect to still have change out of £1500 and a pretty trick induction system. I don’t know how much second hand plenums are though.
Of course there is the cam change route, but any thing too radical will require solid lifters and adjustable rockers / roller rockers, so not my favoured approach for the gains you will get / £.
A set of polished / ported heads is also expensive, unless they need to come off anyway. As far as I understand there is little to be gained by increasing air flow in an engine 4L, or below. Not for my money anyway.
I have seen a number of supercharger and turbo installs at drag meets, they looked massively complex, but do give loads more power. From what SH says in his book an extra 100 bhp may be more than the S can take with out spending loads on chassis etc.
I will be interested to see how you get on and how much power you get from your mods.

Pies,
Supercharging is possible.

Anything is possible.
The real question is how much and how long before it breaks!

The overall question is always how much.
(If you have enough who cares how long it lasts. Just buy two and when one breaks get it fixed!)
Personally Id spend more on the handling to start with. After fitting a roll bar.
