Dunkirk to Nurburgring via interesting roads
Discussion
I know there are plenty of threads on 'good roads to the ring' knocking about, and I've been combing them for tips.
Could those with the knowledge have a look at this route and let me know what you think...

From what I've been able to find out people say to head South at Verviers after passing Liege and then carry on down to Malmedy and then heading East to the Ring. It looks pretty good on the map, just want a nice run down to make the trip memorable.

I'd probably go cross-county a little earlier, and a popular route is from Monschau through the Eifel National Park (mostly on the B258).

That's the route i always use.
Come off motorway at Eupen.....Monschau......Schleiden.......Blankenheim
The rough road is something else

This is the route I usually take, making a stop at Malmedy for the Spa Circuit of course.

Once you turn off the 410 at Budesheim there's a lovely open stretch of road, slightly bumpy in places, but perfected suited to hot hatches

Thanks for the input folks, I appreciate it.
One thing though, when you say 'rough', define rough?
African rough. 20 mph would be hopelessly too fast on it.One thing though, when you say 'rough', define rough?

Certainly worse than anything else in D, F, NL, B, A, CH, I & UK that
I've driven on that calls itself a public road.
Indeed, I've been on dirt roads that have been smoother.
You have been warned.

The 258 from Moschau is excellent though. You can avoid the Eupen bit by going via Aachen or Verviers.
Routes further south are also excellent as suggested above...
1. Malmedy > Waimes > Butgenbach > Stadtkyll > Dreis-Bruck > Kelberg > Nurburg, or
2. 410 from Prum > Gerolstein > Kelberg > Nurburg
If you've more time head even further south, go east along the Mosel Valley and pick up some great roads around Cochem before heading north

Just wanted to say thanks for the route, it made our trip.Due to some members of our convoy relying on Sat nav and getting hopelessly off route we had to ditch the idea of using the scenic route on the outbound route, by the time we got to Junction 38 it was dusk and the others wouldn't reach it for another hour.
Instead we went an easier way and decided to take the supplied route on the return run on the Sunday afternoon. It was bloody brilliant. All cars stuck together and the countryside was wonderful.
Thanks a lot, I've committed the route to memory and will be using that one again!

I even managed over 30mpg on the way back using the same route.
The sat-navs tend to take you through cobbled streets in an attempt to save you 1 minute, but you eventually get used to ignoring their dodgy directions and only use them when you hit roadworks/traffic jams.
