Hello, this is my first post on the BMW forum.
My fan system blows cold but only on the chest. Feet and screen don't blow cold but instead blow warm to hot, even when manually overriding automatic air distribution via iDrive menu.
More specifically, on the air distribution screen on iDrive, with climate control set to auto, the system seems to be dumping most air distribution through the feet vent. If I turn the temperature dial to a setting other than right round to cold, most air distribution is dumped through the feet vent. If I turn it to the very coldest, then the distribution is more evenly distributed through feet, face and screen vents.
Steps taken so far:
An OBD scan reveals no system errors relating to this problem.
I checked the fuses. The "air conditioning - automatic" fuses are Nos 26 and 30, being 7.5 and 15 amps respectively, in the glove box fuse section. Fuse 26 was missing. I inserted a spare 7.5 fuse. No improvement.
I've had a new heater distribution valve fitted. No improvement.
I've had the A/C checked for leaks. There are no leaks and the A/C is fully re-gassed.
The indy I use says we have to bite the bullet and strip out the dash in order to see what is going wrong. He thinks it is a stuck flap or broken flap motor. Unfortunately stripping the dash out is a long job so we are looking a chunky expense here.
Does any one have any:
• thoughts or suggestions on what might be causing the hot air problem; or
• hints on stripping out the dash?
Thank you.

Did you solve a problem? What was an issue?

Hi, it’s a while ago now. I gave up and got used to it.
