Evening PH

I am fast getting to the end of my university career, with jobs in my degree few and far between, and the idea of working in a call centre is really not appealing so i want to think outside the box.
main one is really turning a profit out of classic cars or bikes - small projects from engine stuff to whole cars

Im interested if you guys have any pointers towards what would be reasonable starter vehicles/projects?

Ive recently, still slightly ongoing, restored my 205 gti, took a summer, massive challenge, loved it, maybe something a little less 'french'

On this note - I might have access to a scimitar (pretty gone, but always cool) - possibility?!

I think i've got a reasonable skill set, but im hoping to use these projects as a learning curve to develop myself!

throwing it open to the floor!
Thanks again!
John

IMO old VW's are always a good bet, they have a strong following and are pretty simple car's for the most part smile

'Classic cars' and 'profit' aren't two concepts that are often associated...

Unless you are restoring cars whilst being paid by the hour, it's not really viable.

thanks for the feedback!

maybe looking more at 'future classics' or specific parts might offer more of a return?

What would you guys suggest I do in this area? want to give it a go and do something different, perfect opportunity to do so!
becoming 'employment' thread so if this moves i understand. just trying to get as much input as poss.

cheers John

As others have said, what you are proposing would be better as a 2nd income to go alongside a part time job.

The amount of money you are likely to make from restoring cars would probably not cover your normal living costs (food, rent, etc) and the cost of buying more stock unless you do it on a pretty large scale.

You will probably need a reasonable amount of garage kit/tools and space to do it properly as well.

Having said this, there is a guy in Northumberland that specialises in restoring MX-5s and seems to be doing a good trade.
