I've just heard "Johnny remember me" on the radio, and the first thought was of someone with a Mk2 Consul convertible and the very first in-car 45rpm record player under the dash, with that record playing. Likewise, Similarly, another association is of "the lads" picking up some girls and taking them back to a house we rented. One mate wasn't getting on too well and when we discussed our favourite songs he ruefully commented that, at that particular moment, "A Hard Day's Night" seemed appropriate.

Surely you have some good ones to relate?

Oh how I used to lust after a Mk2 Consul convertable, the ultimate in cool for a young lad!
As for songs, it was always the Meatloaf Bat Out of Hell cassette in my Audi 80 sport back in the 80's. I suppose Little Red Corvette would fit nowbiggrin

Norman Greenbaum's Spirit in the Sky always makes me think of being 17, Ilfracombe, mates long lost, and a blue Ford Anglia.

"Johhny remember me "..... ( I actually bought Son , this is she ).... that reminds me of being on the top deck of the RTL no 234 in Wallington with my best friend Gordon and his transistor radio .....wind forward 15 years from then to 1974 and " Hide in your shell" by Supertramp, courtesy of an eight track cartridge, driving balls out down to Margate in a `72 Dodge Challenger 440 R/T , how did I ever survive !!!!

"The Vauxhall Chevette is whatever you want it to be" - pure 70s, hot summers....so much better than it is today as Meat Loaf would have said.

Happy memories from the mid 70s.
Trying to make it from York to Tadcaster on the A64 in my ratty old '65 Carmen Red E-Type during one playing of the Jean Genie.
Just thinking on, the car was only 10 years old at the time. Worth nothing because of the fuel crisis and a rust bucket even in those days.
I still love E-Types tho'.

The summer of '76 (those old enough to remember will know exactly what I mean), playing Bad Company on the cassette in my Spitfire whilst driving from Norwich to Caister every night to see my girl.

Top down all the time, even at night. Every time I hear that band it takes me back to those happy times. And she was worth it!

Not quite a memory of youth but several years ago I was in Arizona for a conference. Ended up being there over the weekend and the hire car I'd ordered ended up being a minivan (not THAT kind of mini van!).

After I'd dumped my stuff in the hotel I went out for a drive to see the desert. As I headed out of town I switched the radio on and heard the intro to "Bad to the bone". Hardly badass in a minivan but it just seemed right at the time.

O/T but it was interesting to see that the moment there were any bends (and it must be the only bit of the US with some nice ones) the speed limit was 40mph. There were groups of bikers (30-50 bikes)on sportsbikes out for a run all obeying the speed limits. Very odd but they did seem to be heavily enforced.

Anything by the Everly Brothers brings back memories of driving to Bridlington as a kid in the mid 70's in my Grandad's Mark1 escort, two doors and an 8-track player..... MMMmmmmmmmm good days.

Painted black makes me think of my uncle's Mk1 Lotus Cortina biggrin
