Your longest trip?
Discussion
just wondering really.
so what was your longest trip, in what, and why.
guess mine was cardiff to bergen in norway. had to go the long way and it was double driven due to timescale of getting the gear for the show from a to b. had to go cardiff to dover, then through france, belguim, holland, denmark, sweden and norway. got to oslo, still had over 500 km's to go, and it was all single carriageway!!!
zagreb to madrid was a biggy to.
but, we bumped into a guy in rotterdam, who'd bought and converted a 17 tonne m.a.n rigid truck into a kind of mobile home, (looked abit paris/dakar racetruck) the guy had been planning his road trip all his life, and was awaiting some visas, before he set off by road, to MALAYSIA.
the truck was amazing, i think he'd thought of everything, very clever man. said he'd been a director in the petrol industry, just retired and was off to live his dream. he'd fitted outriggers to the truck to aid changing wheels on rough terrain, full size bedroom, living area, kitchen, (with sink) and a proper toilet and shower. the whole of the living area had a clever air conditioning system that he'd invented and fitted, his spares cabinet was bonkers i think he had enough in there really to build a complete 2nd truck. also in the truck, were the trucks 2 batteries. actually, they were dummies. hidden in the side was a keyhole, which you would never have spotted, and this opened a secret compartment for essential documents, spare passport and LOTS of cash. he said he expected to have to pay a few bribes along the way. what a genius way to hide your money, dummy batteries that even appeared to be wired up
oh yeah, he had a crane on the roof, to lower his dinghy down, with outboard motor, should he encounter any major flooding on his epic journey. genius!
i'd love to know how he got on, and if he made it?

Melbourne to Cairns via Adelaide and Sydney, though that probably doesnt count as it took over a month.
Longest A to B trip in one go (With an overnight on the way) is Adelaide to Sydney at 869 miles.
Longest UK based was Inverkeithing to Plymouth (on one tank!) though I hope to beat that with Plymouth to Inverness next month (Though sadly not on the single tank).

Essex to Budapest and back this Easter with Mrs CM91. 1,100 miles each way in a Ford Focus (it does have 300bhp
), can't claim to have done each leg in one hit though. We broke the journeys up in Germany, Regenburg on the way down (lovely), Cologne on the way back (not quite as lovely).
Couple of pics...

This is exactly what I'm planning to do this summer - though not from Essex. How did you find it? I think I'll come back via Austria, Munich and Switzerland too.

We straight-lined the route as we were under pressure to get to Budapest to meet a junior sports group which had flown down for a week's training there, so not a lot of opportunity take in too much scenery. I chose Regensburg on the way down for its old town heritage and cathedral (definitely worth a visit, it's lovely). Cologne on the way back was a bit boring TBH and the Monday morning traffic around Brussels was appalling (which I was expecting TBH). There are stretches of the A3 autobahn which are fabulous when not busy (or its not raining!)
Your Munich and Swiss idea will add several hundred miles to the return journey but sounds like fun

Chester Le Street/Durham to Paris & back in 27 hours 5 of us in my 850 T5 mainly for s
ts and giggles, (we couldn't find the Eiffel Tower!)
Then a year or 2 later, to the 'ring in a 2.0l Mondeo, travelled overnight to find that it had snowed and they had shut the track, so a quick trip into Adenau for a kebab and a slash, then home again. Again, done it all in one big trip.

Northumberland to Stuttgart and back (via Channel Tunnel both ways) in 42hours.
Northumberland to Malaga but broke the journey.
Perugia (Umbria, Italy) to Bergerac (Dordogne, France) in one hit, 10hours with one high speed blow out.
Bergerac to Northumberland in one hit, beat friends who took the aeroplane.
I find it hard very hard to do more than 800miles in a day without a co-driver. 1,000 is about my maximum.
