Hi there guys, I'm after getting myself a 1.8 MX-5 somewhere in the near future and was just wondering if i could get some help!
I keep on seeing people saying that they have a "Eunos" or whatever, and was just wondering what it actually means? what other choices are there as well?
Mods i want to install i have my eye on already but i was just wondering what mods are allowed and what aren't?
I'm a member on Mx5Nutz and have been endlessly trawling the forums on there and here and was just wondering if anyone has any opinions on what mods are definately needed as soon as i get the car.
I'm after a Mk1 in good nick or a Mk2.5 Sport and if anyone has any opinions on what is good/bad on each that'd be great!
(sorry if this is in the wrong place and if this doesn't make much sense but talking to someone on Skype atm and need help asap xD)
Thanks, James

AFAIK Eunos was the name for MX5 in some markets and there are little if any major differences.

IIRC they were called Miata in the states.

Plenty of differences and plenty of versions of Eunos: v special, s special, RS ltd...

Eunos (Brand) Roadster (Model) means it was a model originally designated for Japan, and was 'grey imported' to the UK. Eunos is to Mazda as Lexus is to Toyota.

In the USA as abvoe they were called the Mazda Miata (Which is by far the best name!)

Every single MX-5 Ever has come out of the same factory in Japan though.

There is practically nothing that is not interchangeable between models, so don't let anyone fob you off with that one.

Cheers guys, i'm obviously as retarded as i look in that case :P

Mod wise, what is the limit on mods and what is legal/illegal? is there a list or table drawn up somewhere or is that a direct agreement between driver and insurer?

Thats completely down to you and your insurance agreement (within reason).

None. NO 'mods' are needed to make an MX-5 an excellent car. Maintenance, maybe. Good tyres (matching), good wheel alignment are the reccomended start point really.

Sorry, didn't mean it like that! i meant are there any mods (wheels etc) that'd make it look better

Depends what you like. The right wheels always make the car. I prefer no spoiler. Watch out for rust.

Do NOT "stance" it.

They look good without being ruined with stretched tyres, etc.

BBC or team dynamics IMO
15" is better on track, 14" is fine for road.

Don't let excitement get the better of you when you're buying! There are loads out there so take your time and have patience, and get someone who knows what to look for along with you if at all possible. I suggest buying from Nutz / Pistonheads / MX5OC classifieds rather than randoms on e-bay or Autotrader.

Insurance wise, depending on your age go for specialist or classic. If you fit their criteria they will be far more flexible with mods and it'll be significantly cheaper.

Budget into the price for a full cambelt and fluid service, a clutch slave cylinder, four matching tyres and a full laser wheel alignment by some one who knows '5s.

Mod-wise, the sky is the limit, it depends on your priorities (cosmetic or performance?) and how you're going to use it.

Whichever models you look at, check for rust. Start with the sills.

Thanks, Replied!

Also thanks a lot everyone, really helpful feedback here!
I'd like it to look nice cosmetically but also mainly i'd like it to handle and perform well. Was considering "stancing" it, but gone off it now as it takes money, time and a lot of swearing to get it right!

No idea although I have a feeling you should check with the seller you would be buying from rather than relying on someone saying a price.

Happy to help, seriously call and find out. Why are you looking at wheels before you have a car? hehe
