Uprated V8 demonstrator on show at TV Racetech's open day
TVR Power's TVR Taraka 500 demonstrator will be on show at Thames Valley Racetech on Saturday 7th August 2004 from 9am to 3pm.
On the day, TV Racetech shall be offering customers the opportunity to test drive the Taraka and discuss the various upgrades available to boost the performance of their TVR.

Check out the TVR Power website. It's an uprated 500. Personally I'm waiting for the super-charged version.

If TVR Power offer that as their supercharger conversion then don't touch it with a barge pole! That is the conversion that got superchargers a bad name, it is renowed for blowing up engines due to poor distribution. There are far far better ways to do it though, and I'm sure TVR Power would go for a better solution if they decided to go ahead. But I'm curious to know whether they ever will, and if so what the power gains and cost turn out to be.

What the hell is a Taraka?
"Taraka is the name of a powerful demon who threatened to subjugate the world. He was able to grow so powerful because he had followed his austerities to such an extent that he became more powerful than the gods. Fearing his power, the gods went to Shiva, imploring him to help them against this terrible threat. Shiva created a champion, Karttikeya, to combat the foe. When he was ready, Karttikeya went forth and the two battled. Karttikeya was able to destroy the demon, and so rescued the world.
Taraka is also the name of a female Rakshasa whom Rama kills with his bow in his epic the Ramayana. At first he is reluctant to slay a woman, and just shoots off her arms. But then she becomes invisible. Using her magic, she hurls rocks and boulders at Rama and his companions, and they are hard-pressed to ward off her attack. Finally Rama closes his eyes and aims by sound only. He lets his arrow fly, and pierces the evil spirit through the heart. "
Learning every day.

TVR Power's website is all very nice, but it doesn't actually say what sort of power and torque gains you can expect for your money.
Isn't that tailormade? "OK, the RR-conv please. With a redline at 6700 and torqey all the way from 3 to top-end"
Just saying something stupid maybe . . .

The hard part is designing the conversion, with that sorted I think five grand is not unrealistic for 350 bhp (with the potential for further increases up to say 450 bhp if you are prepared to spend more money on changes to the bottom end and engine management). This is close to the sort of money DPR were quoting me a year or so back. The question is, are there enough people ready to pay hard cash to justify a company like TVR Power investing hundred or thousands of man-hours in developing their own conversion?
