Am I worried about my recent Evo purchase... Nope. I've been running another with four friends as a dedicated track car which has proved extremely reliable for two years. So much so I'm building another.

As odd as it sounds that is the grain of truth in that ad.Vanos units were supplied by RR but it was my understanding that these could have been on either 3.0 or 3.2 engines.
There are also Vanos units supplied by a joint BMW / RR Aero engineering set up.
