I was wondering what the True Blue reference was on the cars, now it has become apparent.

I wonder if any money actually changed hands?

Not really sure what either is gaining from it?

I guess Sauber get increased interest from football fans. Which will improve their relations with their sponsors. And Chelsea get...err...to promote their brand around the world?

£££££ Chelsea money bags must play a big part in whatever they are gaining. Chelsea can sell more merchandise, and could probably afford to buy Sauber.

Does that mean if one of the cars gets slightly tapped they are contractually obliged to roll over and feign an injury?

Considering how football supporters completely failed to pick up on Super League Formula I can't see this having much of an impact.

Not a football fan but considering the state the team was in late 2009/early 2010..
it's looking strong at the moment.

you've lost respect for one of the most respected outfits on the grid due to the fact they've made a deal to allow them to do what they're good at a bit better?

cool

Absolutely.

Even though I like both, I find they make very strange bedfellows and anyone who tries to mix the two usually finds it a costly exercise.

I never liked formula superleague..
If it was ever going to work it should of done there..
and the series folded.

Let's not forget where Chelsea's money comes from.

I'd imagine it's Abramovich's new hosting-guests location, getting his money into F1 at the same time.

Yes.

As a Man Utd fan it just sickens me to see that logo on the car, I'd be less offended if they had sponsorship from Ian Huntley & Mira Hindley Ltd - child protection agency. biggrin

The football connection put me right off this, if it had just been a normal race series with no football connection I would have gone to see this when it was at Brands.

Best part was the Nice V12..
some good drivers such as Bourdais,Karthikeyan etc
I agree it would of been alright if not for the football connection...
Just made it feel weird.

I do. I don't remember much though.

Probably cheaper to sponsor Lister than pay for a 1st team player for a year though...

Been done in the TVR Tuscan Challenge too....

Often these deals are 'free' - someone gets permission to use the livery and uses the halo effect of that brand to attract other sponsors.

In the case of CFC and Sauber I imagine that both are simply using it to achieve greater PR/marketing reach and the link up gives them additional options for their own sponsors. e.g. Chelsea can now offer F1 hospitality to Samsung, and vice versa for Sauber with their sponsors. I wouldn't be hugely surprised if little money changed hands.

Or its just Ambramovich fancied watching some F1 trackside, and a load of money secured it for him...
