Hello

I would like to check this on a car I am hoping to buy. Is there a way of checking if its had the update without taking the car into BMW? Will the premium rate line tell me this information?

I basically thought it was an 09 car when advertised for sale but it looks like its an 08 build and registered on an 09 as its got the older iDrive. Thats why need to check if its had the updates. Have asked owner and hes not sure.

ANy information much appreciated. Thanks

If the owner does not know then the chances are the upgrades have not been done as bmw will only do them if asked even within warranty as some people just accept the way the gearbox is.Out of warranty they try to charge you even though it is a known problem. The cars with the later i drive had to be built from september 08 onwards but there are loads of 09 plates with the old idrive as no stock cars were selling at the time due to the financial climate. Some reputable auto electricians have the equiptment to plug in and tell you all the upgrades that are available. The later idrive is so much better and can be upgraded to the 2011 7 digit post code as well and the cars seem to demand a higher figure at dealers too.

On the test drive, slow gently from about 40mph to walking pace (in Auto mode), then accelerate. If the cars accelerates then it's got the more important updates, if it sits there hesitating for about 2-3 seconds then it hasn't!

I was told when I bought mine (AUC) that all AUC cars have the latest updates as standard (not that I believed them and made them prove it) so if the car you're looking at has been an AUC car previously then you could presume it had been updated.

Thanks. Owner says he wasnt aware so I am getting the update done. Been quoted around 120 plus VAT so not too bad. Also going to look at having the later iDrive retrofitted as the car I got was indeed built in 2008 but on an 09 plate.

Cheers
