By happy coincidence, we were looking to spend our summer holiday somewhere mountainous and then got invited to a wedding in the Italian lakes.

Pouring over maps last night the wife and I have agreed to drive there via Switzerland and I have conceded that we can go for a multi day mountain walk if I get to spend at least 3 - 4 days biking too and enter Italy via Stelvio.

What I'm looking for is a location (or routes) we can ride XC in the Swiss Alps, not looking for DH or anything massively technical as we're mainly into fast flowing singletrack. I've ridden most trail centres in the UK, usually red runs provide a happy compromise for us both as I let fly on the flat and descents and she catches me on the climbs....

I've had a good scout on Google but only found companies that run inclusive biking holidays, I'd prefer just to turn up and ride a few trails, can be 1/2 day rides through to a multi day type (on our bikes or we could hire them). We'll be camping so accommodation isn't really a problem.

The only caveat is elevation gain, I'm not massively fit at present but can handle a height gain on a ride of 1000m reasonably well, so would need to avoid anything that was significantly more I think (I am training for it though).

Anyone got a recommendation?
Thanks.

By no means an expert, but there are loads of XC routes that link (France):Avoriaz, Châtel, Les Gets, Morzine and Montriond-Les Lindarets and (Switzerland) Champéry, Morgins, Torgon and Les Crosets.

And if you go at the right time you can use the lifts to avoid the major clmibs.

I'm only going on the information for the Passportes Event, my first-hand knowledge is limited to DH runs in the resorts and getting home from Bar Robbo wasted on Mudzig.
