So it finally happened, at the ripe old age of 26 I've finally got my 'own' set of wheels. I say 'own' because it's a company car. Still, it's my first car so will always be remembered.

Here it is:

It's a bog-standard 2012 Skoda Octavia VRS petrol, with a manual gearbox. Bearing in mind today was the first time I've driven a car without someone in the passenger seat, I'm pretty impressed with it! Drove the 65 motorway miles back from work and found it really quite relaxing - I'm usually doing that distance on two wheels whatever the weather. Driving this at 70-80 with the cruise control on and the radio turned up was a relative luxury…

Obviously it's quite fast as well for a first car, but its performance seems 'ample' rather than hilarious, although it does make quite nice whooshy turbo noises at higher revs! Coming from a motorbike probably isn't the best way to be impressed by a car's performance, but it's good enough wink Enough to keep me amused when I sell my bike in a month or so to save money.

I've only done 75-or-so miles on it (65 of them on motorways) and the average mpg is sitting at 28 – hopefully that'll get better as the engine loosens up! drink

So there you go, not the most PH first car ever, but still not what I expected to begin my four-wheel career in. I passed my test last August and it's all come back to me really quickly, but using the roads every day on a bike probably helps with that. Parallel parking will take some improving though…

Anyway, enough waffle – more pics. The blue looks lovely in sunlight. The boot is absolutely cavernous, you could easily fit three or four hookers in there if you stacked them well.

I like it too because it's going to carry me to the shops when it's raining.

Really nice that mate, still very jealous its your first car whether it's a company one or not.

That blue is the best colour for the Octavia VRS imo, hope you enjoy driving it!

I dare say that a VRS is a pretty decent 'first car'

So have you just been on motorbikes up to now?

So it's not your "own" car... it's your company car?

Looks really nice, I am a big fan of the new Skodas. Very impressive first car too, even if it is a company car and you are 26 wink

Enjoy it!

My point being it's not his "own" car. Is that clear enough for you?

But..... He said that anyway?

In the first sentence.

He explained the whole thing.

Then you made your point as if you'd rumbled a conspiracy.

Confused.

laugh Fool!

After a week of motorway commute to work I took it for a fun B-road drive today with a friend who was on his Street Triple. It likes overtaking everything. OK, not quite as many things as on a motorbike, but most things. I'm really enjoying having a car, and the Octavia's got a real split personality. Boring commuting/load lugging box with loads of rear legroom and a huge boot, then pretty damn rapid B road car.

Have a new photo. Excuse the numberplate, dodgy heal tool...

Haha, it wasn't added in post, my iPhone Camera+ app just boosts the shadows a bit and fiddles with the contrast. I was being a n00b and taking the photo into the sun...
