I am approx 95Kilos atm (Working on itsmile) and find that even after getting a bike fit, which helped considerably, I still get a very sore rear when riding more than a couple of hours.

Am I alone? or is this(as I am beginning to suspect) a function of me being out of design tolerences for a modern road bike seat.

Happens to everyone at some point. Are you wearing "proper" padded cycling shorts?

95kg isn't that much, you just need to toughen up a bit. How many long rides have you done so far?

I'm 95 kg and have no problems - good quality shorts and a decent saddle. There are some shops that have saddles you can try before you buy, for example: http://www.stonehengecycles.com/page/111/saddle_te...

Personally I use an MTB race saddle, just a bit more padding.....

Rule 5 it is thensmile
I did a 38 miler on Sunday in the rain followed by the reverse today, 1900ft elevation both ways 2:16 out and 2:07 back.
I have only had the bike a couple of months but have racked up about 600miles, I do wear padded shorts and the problems not rubbing, just really sore to the point that I have to stand every few minutes to shake it off once I go past the 2 hour point.
(Longest ride was 63 miles) Have changed the seat too.

Did you get the shop to check the saddle is the correct size for you?
Yes, had a Specialised BG bike fit which took 4 hours.
Its the sit bones that get sore. I must be a strange shapefrown
BTW we met once on a goodwood breakfast club meet at Guildford Cathedral (I was in the big old rusty blue American coupe that the stragglers had trouble keeping withsmile)

No, it happens to me too and I'm only 78kg. Perhaps its the saddle but I'm beginning to think I/we have arse design flaws wink I'm going for a bike fit tomorrow morning so we shall see what is recommended. Went out on my single speed at the weekend, with a different saddle design and that felt much better. I normally get intense pain after 30 miles but on that I was still okay after 50. Bit sore today though..

Saddles are the most personal thing.

With just about everything else, more spendy = better. With saddles, it's just got to fit right. Even if it's the cheapest, nastiest POS saddle, if it fits your sits, you'll be comfortable.

And there really is no way you can tell until you've been sitting on the thing for a few house. Some stores have loan saddles to try, and Specialised do erm, special, trial saddles in red and white, so a Spesh store may be able to help you.

Have you tried a big comfy gel padded saddle?

I had the same issue until I fitted a Max Flyte gel saddle now its much better , I use the same model on road or MTB , very comfy.

On Road bikes I found that alloy frames were much harsher and hence less comfortable to ride.

The less padding and narrower the better.

Over 100Kg here, and did a 50Km ride at the weekend with unpadded shorts, no bum ache, so its not down to your weight

Have a Charge Spoon saddle, just over £20 from Wiggle, so more money does not directly buy you comfort, but it does seem to be important to have a saddle that matches you

I am going to second the saddle point.

I only started commuting this month and suffered the sit bone issue. A change of saddle helped me immensely. The pain is a lot less

good luck

After the bike fit have they set the saddle up in a specific manner and does your other bike match? I know from experience that changing the saddle from my normal position can be mighty un-comfy.

Definitely the saddle.

I weighed in at 126kg last year when I started riding to work again. Since then, I've put in enough miles to get down to 115kg without any arse pain.

Then I got my lovely new bike.

The Fizik Arione on that left me in agony after about 20 miles. Swapped it for a Spesh Ronin Expert Pro (or something like that) and comfortably did 50 miles on it the following weekend.

You might find the Arione is the perfect saddle for you though, and the Ronin slaughters you. We're all different in that respect. smile

112kg here and been going through saddles like nobodies business. However, when I bought my Whyte 901 it came with a saddle that is just heaven for me. I've had all the fittings, measurements and all types but the Whyte is just amazingly comfortable!!

It's the most personal thing!

Yes, before the fit my bit would get fizzy and stay that way for days. ( the nose now points slightly down)Now it's just numb bum.
I guess I need to keep looking at seats but very few will offer a trial in my area.
