I have a Global G4 Oriental Knife and love it. For my birthday my parents have said they want to buy me another. I would like a smaller all purpose knife, so what are your recommendations? They are thinking of spending about £70 and I quite like the look of the GS11 Flxible of GS53 Fluted, but I am open to suggestions.

Out of those two I would go with the flexible. If you do a lot of veg prep then I would recommend one of these as a partner to your other knife (Global GS5 Vegetable Knife)

Agreed on the flexible as an addition to the set. That's what I use for slicing sashimi, or any other job where slices want to be neat and thin. It also doubles up for boning meat and fish.

However I also have the GS5 vegetable knife, and of all my Globals it's the one I use the most. It has the 'heft' to go through woody vegetables, and is just the right size in the hand. The G2 chef's knife seems like overkill for an onion.

So. Get both. nuts Plus invest in the proper sharpener, if you don't have this already.

We've got the flexible knife, I don't think it's ever been used which was a good waste of money. Think about what you need a knife for, mrs envy didn't.

Also, if going for the vegetable knife go for the bigger one - globals are quite light so if you have half decent knife skills you should be able to use it reasonably well. The small one is ok for slicing small items such as garlic and shallots, if you cook in bigger quantities you'll run out of blade length.
