During a RR session I have been told my car is running a little lean at full throttle and was told an uprated fuel pump (probably a Walbro 255), a fuel pressure regulator and uprated boost control solenoid/valve? and a remap will sort the leaning out.

My car is a version 4 STi Type R so will need a means of mapping and for the price the ESL boards seems a good shout. I get the feeling in an ideal world I should be leaning towards SimTek but going for the cheaper option would allow more funds to be directed elsewhere.

I've heard great things about both options, has anyone here got any experience either way?

Right.

Esl - knock control, allows the car to be mapped live, there is mafless option, there are other options too like switchable maps.

Simtek - there are now two simteks, simtek 1 has a fast processor and the car will be slightly smoother, two maps, options of switchable launch and antilag. The dis currently being no knock control and no closed loop idle. There is a knock warning but it is upto you to take action.
There is knock control coming but you cant buy a product on that assumption it happens. Closed loop idle is also coming. It might take a couple of attempts to get the idle perfect.

Simtek 2 - its very new, only mapped on and have another to do this week, knock control and knock warning, closed loop idle, fast processor, options of als and launch, 8map option and option of datalogging with the pro version.

Simtek1 - has dropped in price as a result of simtek 2.

Simon, thanks for the comprehensive write up. I think I am leaning towards the ESL option for now but it does seem like the new Simtek will be a very decent package, no doubt a popular one too.

Can you PM me an all-in cost for ESL with and without MAF-less option? I'm based in Cheletenham if that matters.

Cheers,
