After seeing the pictures of painted rocker covers, I have decided to give cleaning mine up a go.

I've done this before on an A-Series Rover engine, and on a B-Series honda engine, both of which had next to nothing in the way, but it looks like there's maybe some things around the rocker cover that might cause pain.

- I was just wondering what's involved in removing it?
- Will it need a new gasket etc?
- Could anyone give me a quick 10-step program as to what needs removed etc?
- Any areas where I'd need to be careful?

Cheers,

Malc

As it happens I changed the gaskets on mine last week, nearside is pretty easy remove plug leads, lift plenum but don't need to remove from car just swing out of the way, Undo the four bolts and lift it off. Off side is bit more awkward because of the coolant and fuel pipes, disconnect these and it comes out ok just a bit fiddly. I fitted rubber gaskets and make sure you don't drop any of the metal rings from the gasket into the engine!

Thanks for the fast reply!

For the offside...

Do the coolant/fuel lines need to be disconnected?
i.e. Coolant pouring out, need to bleed system again etc?
Or can the be moved out of the way?

Where did you get the new gaskets from?

Also, I assume it's ok to leave the car with the rocker covers removed, bonnet down, cover over the top, for a week or so while I clean them up?

I disconnected the top hose at the front that goes to the inlet manifold and then managed to push the 2 metal pipes out of the way, so yes lost a bit of coolant and had to bleed the system afterwards. Again I had to undo the 2 fuel pipes and push them out of the way, just recheck these aren't leaking fuel when you put them back. Pretty easy job, i bought the gaskets from a company on ebay and they arrived the next day. Just make sure you cover up aything you leave open so nothing drops in somewhere it shouldnt while you have the rocker covers painted.
