Chaps and chapettes

I'm not going to dig up my old thread, but I recently requested your help to provide some ideas for cars. Which a lot of you kindly obliged with, and came up with some great ideas. I went and had a nose around some local garages and cast some opinions on those I hadn't sat in, ridden etc. before. Apologies for my tardiness in not replying and thanking those that did. I got insurance quotes on a lot of them, and was quite surprised at the feasibility of owning them.

My favourite of the lot, and something I really had not considered, was a Jag XK. Specifically, a XK60 at Keighley Sports & Performance (which is still available!) came across as my favourite. I've not seen it in the flesh, but have seen plenty other XKs around to know what they look and sound like. Not driven one, though.

Then, yesterday, a Lexus ISF drove past me. They sound amazing! Read some reviews, they come very highly commended.

I was pondering over putting a non-refundable deposit down on an Audi TTS as the thing drove past. The TTS would be about £300-400 less a year in insurance, and probably half the tax as a guesstimate. The ISF is a grand or so more, but I could probably stretch to it. But I've read mixed reviews on the TTS. The ISF comes loaded to the eyeballs with gear, as you would expect.

Please, treat me like an idiot, and weigh these two cars up for me as if I knew nothing of the Lexus and Audi brands, and the models if you know enough about them, to let me make an unbiased decision on which to plump for, subject to test drives on both. Anything that stands out to you, any feedback you have as owners or knowledge of owners. I appreciate they are very different cars.

Thanks, Toby

Edit: I appreciate that the ISF is in TTRS territory, so comparing to a TTS is unfair, but they are of similar value now - hence the conundrum.

I actually spent quite a while deciding whether to start with the ISF or the TTS in my topic title. D'oh!

ISFs are ace, seriously seriously ace. Try one.

Oh, and Keighley - you might want to google them before you consider parting with any money, their reputation precedes them, for all the wrong reasons.

Agreed the details on the website can be far from the truth, tread lightly and with all warning antenna out !

I went up to have a look at a 200sx many, many moons ago. Took a few minutes in there, turned round, and walked away.

Of the 2, both are underrated I think. The TT because it is a TT, and the Lexus because it isn't an M3. Of the 2, I would go for the ISF. It just looks beastly, yet understated.

I think these two cars are in very different worlds.
1) VAG Coupe, reasonable spec, not great but will be ok to own. ((TTRS different proposition)
2) Practical, V8 RWD super saloon, excellent build quality.

Hmmm... tough one.....

Assuming from the OP that you've got around 30k and don't really need rear seats.

Has to be the ISF, if you can afford it, every single time. Golf coupe vs 417bhp super saloon - not really any contest, is there?

I can't believe the two cars are even uttered in the same sentence. It simply must be the ISF.

Google everything you can on the Keighley companies. There are a couple and they are connected. Very similar stock, same owners.
