I think my dash ECU is knackered, it started flashing on and off then went off for about 45 mins, then came back on. After starting the car later it just pops up the start screen then nothing. I have unplugged everything and re-connected, also popped in a new spare display and it's the same, any ideas before sending off to get repaired?

I had the same problem a few weeks ago. Dash fading to off, coming back on and off.

Is it the backlight or the whole display?

If you shine a torch at it you can see if the numbers are working or if it is completely dead. The buttons should still change between screens.

Mine was a knackered lcd display, but if you have put a spare in then it probably isn't that. Therefore it will probably be the power lead for the backlight. This is two thin bits of wire on the LH inside of the dash. On mine the wires can rub on the Aluminium housing and one of the wires had worn back the plastic sheath to the bare wire.

Cheers madbadger, I will check the voltage on these wires.

The screen always shows the "Tamora V 6.1" then nothing. It doesn't bleep any warnings either like when the lights are on or the door is open etc.

Looks like I will have to rig up a makeshift analogue fuel gauge for now. this is why I hate digital dashes, if it goes all information goes, at least with analogue you can still have some information if one gauge goes.

Anyone got a spare Dash ECU they can loan me?

Just had a quote from TVR Dean for a second hand unit £350 rofl

I have found out that if the blowwer is set to cold the dash stays on, turn on some heat and after 1 min the dash goes off!!! very odd.

could you have got some unwelcome moisture behind it after your long drive home with all that rain, and your heater on for a long time? what about moisture on the ecu plug down by the throttle pedal?

Is there a fan behind the dash which cools it? Any ideas?

All dry, fortunately the Tamora is a leak free car smile I really need to borrow a Dash ECU to check that it's the electronics in the ECU or in the dash module. Checked the voltage to the Dash module and all is fine.

Next step tonight is to check the two ribbon wires to eliminate them from the equation.
Also see if I can feel any cold/warm air around the Dash ECU or dash pod when I flip the blower.

One other thing that might be causing a problem is the Syvecs ECU is strapped to the Dash ECU No idea if the Syvecs gets warm but will be checking the case temperature to see if this is transfering any heat into the Dash ECU which could cause it to overheat.

Can someone tell me what there dash says when the first splash screen comes up and you press the two buttons. You have to do it when "Tamora V6.1" is on the screen, you should get a "Warning Code ???? Initialising" let me know what yours says, you have to be quick as it's not on for long.

Can you take a hair-dryer to the dash (with the car's blower set on cold) - this will see if its the heat build up that is causing an issue.

If the dash stays on whilst hot then I suspect that there is some cabling issue with the fan flap motor, given its the only thing (afaik) that changes in terms of cold / hot flow.

Update on this:-
Had the dash ecu checked and it was found to be ok. Was Recommended new cables but i had checked these but bought a new set anyway and still no display on the LCD !. Only thing now it could be is a problem in the dash pod. So anyone got one for sale? Or loan me one for some beer tokens smile

I had a similar problem with my 06 Tuscan that has a similar dash pod to the Tamora. I also had the ECU checked out and no fault was found, so removed the dash pod which is mounted on a metal frame direct to the chassis on the Tuscan:-

With the dash pod removed ,but still connected to the dash ECU when switched on the dash come on OK.

Further investigation revealed one of the mounting bolts was no longer insulated from the dash pod ground.

With some additional insulating washers behind the fixing bolts I have had no further problems.

I don't know if the dash pod is mounted in a similar way on the Tamora, but might be worth a check.

Finally the fault has been found ! It was the negative feed on the dash pod.

I seem to be having a similar problem...the LCD can be seen very faint in a dark garage. Its already been repaired once by Cath, but now it;s gone dark again. I suspect a dodgy earth connection. Where exactly is the earth connection to the pod?
