Selling the M400
Discussion
I originally posted in General Gassing but have put it here and quoted below:
Posting for a non PHer friend who is sadly selling his Noble M400. He was going to place an ad in the classifieds but he's never sold a car like this privately before and is a bit wary, so I said it's probably a good idea to put the question to the all-knowing PH community.
He was originally going to give it to a dealer to sell but they would take a good chunk of the sale value as their profit, so we thought classifieds is probably best.
What he wants to know is – What is the best practice for selling a performance car privately? E.g. are there any scams / dodgy things to look out for. Any selling experiences or recommendations welcome!
Cheers

How much is he selling it for?
I have been asked twice this year if i am selling mine by random guys sending me private messages. I have been offered 40K cash, i have never put my car up for sale and i have no intention on selling
It would be very helpful to us all if you could let us know how much he eventually sells it for.Can you post up some pics of it?

although in answer to your original question.
Alot of it is common sense.
Dont fall for the foreign buyer that is arranging everything through a shipping company. Normally they ask for a fee of £50 or so..A poorly worded email should be the first red flag!
Dont leave the person with the car and keys alone
Dont leave log book with the person and the car
Dont let the buyer see too much of your property. They can very easily come back later and steal the car.
Always have a mate or 3 around just incase they turn up with a car full of people intending on stealing the car.
Depending on the amount of money, be wary of cash
You should be ok on here though. Most people looking for a Noble will have posted on here previously, Or if they are a current owner they may well be known on here.

Been advised by the specialist that he uses to look after the car to let it go for just upwards of £40,000. 40k from £62.5. Amazing lack of depreciation, warms my accountant's heart I'll try and get some pics of the car to pop on here.

The last couple I know of went for over that figure, so it would seem that's a fair starting point now, assuming a well maintained example?
Very well maintained, it's done 13,000 miles by the way, to answer your previous question. It spends most of it's time in a heated garage on a trickle charger and rarely goes out. He really doesn't want to see it go but needs must I guess!I told you sellers can control the market..;).. be wary of ones going cheap as owners that have cherished their cars tend to refuse to let them go cheap and would risk facing starvation instead...so now you know what happened when you on the news pics of a skeleton still gripping the steering wheel of a noble...
Simply many people would prefer to keep them rather than accept less than what they are worth...and sellers seem to be putting more well deserved worth on their pride and joy..
