Title says it all really. Some are just more ugly than others. An example. Case for the prosecution rests.

Not all, I don't think.

Just the vast majority.

I tend to agree.....I can't think of anything new that I would really love to own for its looks!

Thats the reason I tend to drive older stuff as nothing modern appeals to Me at all.

I also don't see the need for cars to be so complicated that you can't fix them yourself. Do we really need all of the electronics, sensors etc??

my opinion is that it is.

I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say I like those. I'd never buy one, 'cause they're not the sort of car I'd want, but the design is alot more interesting than many of the things you see on the road.

The offerings from mass manufacturers have to be designed to appeal to lots of people, so will necessarily be relatively bland and conservative. Just look at the furore that erupted when BMW were a bit different with the Bangle cars for how you upset the conservative buyer at your peril.

Look to the less mainstream, more niche manufacturers for better looking cars. Of course, "ugly" is subjective (thankfully wink) so what I like, you might detest.

bks, 'Interesting' is just designing an ugly car for ugly's sake.

And the Juke is extremely ugly, ungainly and pointless.

Most of it is down to "safety" legislation, things like the minimum height between the top of the engine and the bonnet, in case a pedestrian head hits it.

I predict the thread will say that a lot is to do with pedestrian safety regs, but what I don't get is how something like a Juke can get a passable rating there, unless the whole thing is secretly made of granny-absorbing sponge.

Edit: I predicted too late!

Not at all.

The whole current Jaguar range is proof that not all new cars are ugly.

The Jags aren't that bad, but the looks don't figure high on their desirability list.

Yep. Seen one the other day for the first time with an older woman driving it, I thought why the hell have you bought that? Then quickly thought why would anyone buy one of them?

So do I, and the Juke-R is brilliant! hehe

It might not be pretty but it's a lot better than a jellymould eurobox to my eyes.

Ugly and ungainly, yes, but if it sells, it's arguably not pointless.

...and I still find the design interesting because it's so different biggrin

I commented to the wife the other day that many new cars look like they have been designed by Fisher Price.

Of course not all new cars are ugly, but there is a definate trend toward either more rounded, bulbous shapes, or a strange mix of conflicting angles and curves, none of which I find visually appealing.

Many cars of late are just too big and clumsy looking for the size class in which they supposedly belong. Small cars just ain't small any more - I'm thinking in particular (but not exclusively) of anything recent wearing the MINI badge!
