I need to refill my cooling system, do I need to take care over what additive I put in? Like, for example, is there any aluminium in the engine?

Err yes there's some aluminium, so don't go putting water wetter in. just antifreeze the pink type from memory?

Just go in halfords/ford and as for some coolant mix for a mondoe ST 220 , it will be blue or pink but it should match the color you already have . Tux

Thanks, the colour I have is crystal clear. A hose split at the end of a trackday and with a some amazing help from the guys in the paddock I got a temporary fix, but had to put about 9l of tap water in to get the level back so there's not much of the original left. I've ordered a neoprene replacement and plan to drain it and refil using rainwater plus additive. The installation manual only talks about 'coolant', so thanks for a reference model Halfords will understand.

Chances are that people in Halfords wont know what your on about. Tap water is very very bad for engines so get it flushed and changed asap

Id just buy pre-mixed coolant. No hassle then!
