I purchased a used xbox game advertised as almost new used once! as a fly of the moment thing as I only just ordered a xbox on amazon today, and just found out that in order to play mortal kombat online again you need to purchase a key! I asked a question if its been played online but no response just yet!

The theiving robbing bds! Im really pissed....nothing about it being used but because the theiving bds are trying to stop preowned/used games!

It's like that for all games sadly.

Part of the reason why I'm not getting Xbox live for now.

Its increasingly common now, pretty much all EA games have an online play code.

I buy quite a few used games as I don't get much gaming time I'm not that fussed about playing them at release time, its saved me a fortune. I would wager that by the time the next gen ps/xbox consoles are out the used game market will be pretty much dead, they will all be locking content and online features with codes so the game will be pretty much worthless without..

What makes it worse is they will be losing sales because of it.

Who would spend 50 quid on a game, with no chance of selling it on if they don't like it/finish it/need money/whatever?

So we can't take it back to a shop unless it's defective...even if it's rubbish to play.
When we are eventually Bored of playing it.. it's worth next to nothing as new buyer has to pay again.

I think the publishers are cutting off their noses to spite their faces. Unless new games are going to become much cheaper in the future.

Pre-owned games will always be for sale as the way forward for the likes of EA is to sell the license for a game online.
In a game disc lifetime it can generate upto an extra £40 in revenue from key code sales alone.
Anyone who buys the game new will get the free license forever and if they sell the game they will get trade/cash value as is now.
What the chap gets when buying pre-owned is an un-licensed game disc which is available to buy.
EA and the rest knows that selling license codes is another way to make direct profit via the pre-owned market, and that is something which they never had before.
I also don't think that they will make games soley for online download use as this would be a non-profit market for on going sales, except for add ons.
If you don't know wether you are going to like a game or not, try the demo that's why they make them.

Can't say I've ever played a demo that didn't play almost exactly the same as the full game...

I can remember at least one. It was a space game, and featured totally different handling, different asteroid/scrap metal pile modelling...
