Well the dreaded big 4-0 is looming soon and the better half has asked me where I would like to go for a long weekend, so i've suggested i'd like to go back to Scotland, Being a Southern softie The better half has never been that far North and i've always wanted to take her to Scotland although she doesn't really see what all the fuss is about

We'd like a nice hotel or a log cabin thats relatively inexpensive hopefully near stunning scenery but not too far from a town or village where we can get a bite to eat etc. but heres the rub, we will have our 6 month old little fella in tow so it needs to be child friendly.

Any recommendations greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Thanks for the recommendations chaps, but 'ahem' I did say relatively inexpensive, I dont expect to pay 20-30 quid a night for some hole but paying hundreds per night when i'll probably be staying for 3 nights is out of even my leaque lol.

How about the chalets at Crieff Hydro? Nice wee town, near Stirling/Perth for a day out, Dukes Pass for a hoon?

Kenmore is nice, with a couple of places to eat and your only 10 mins from Aberfeldy, and 30 from Pitlochery if you want to hit the big city! laugh

We've just had four nights away for our mini-moon here:

Balmacara Mains

The website really doesn't do it justice. Beautiful place and fantastic staff. They arranged champagne for us arriving and without any prompting they discounted our rate when we payed the bill as we'd stayed four nights, we originally booked only three but decided to add an extra night.
It's perfectly located to get over to Skye and up to Torridon/Applecross etc. We will definitely go back.

Two pics below from the B&B

It's not cheap, but value for money compared to other places I've stayed in the area, it really can't be beaten, IMO.

Feel free to drop me a message if you want any other info

We stayed at The Inch, Fort Augustus just last weekend - nice place, good food (breakfast and dinner), great location. Staff were E.European, which is the only complaint (not that they did anything wrong, just that it wasn't authentic, IYSWIM). Plus they organise stuff for you...no idea on price/quality of that though.

Alternatively, if there's not loads of you, contact Duncraig Castle (IIRC it's a lady called Suzanne running it) - proper old stately home on the opp. side of the water from Plockton - arguably an even better location. A little out-of-the-way (~40min rough walk to Plockton, or a short-ish taxi), but good service and very friendly hosts. B&B only.

Neither should be too expensive - ~£100/rm/nt.
