Anyone living local to Reading I can recommend the butcher on Smelly Alley for his scratchings which are £2 for a big bag full of crackling yumminess.

Nothing worse than getting one with hair on it. I know they are called scratchings, but they shouldn't actually scratch you.

I see the odd hairy one as a label of authenticity (although I don't know what else they could be made of), I don't eat them though.

if there's anyone near camberley, the farmers market is this saturday morning and the biggest of the butchery stalls sells massive bags of the most delectable scratchings at 3 for £5

the one thing I can't stand about pork scratching is there is always a couple slightly soggy bit of pork skin in there a it makes me heave.

I had a bag a couple of weeks ago and came to the same conclusion as you really - no teeth breakers, no hairy chunks and none of the black soggy bits.

After cracking a molar I've banned myself from them too.

My best pork scratching experience was when I found a pork rind stall on holiday in Acapulco. I handed the bloke 5 US dollars and and went back to the hotel with a ridiculously huge bag of porky deliciousness. I then sat by the pool, drank beer and munched through the lot over the next two weeks.
