help - fuel pump/immobiliser problem
Discussion
1996 Chim 400hc.
Driving me nuts. Went to start up a couple of days ago and the Fuel pump not kicking into life when turning ignition on.
Fuse - ok
relay - ok (changed anyway)
Inertia switch - ok
Pump - ok (spins up when current applied)
If I short out the relay when in situ then pump spins up so current ok to pump.
I can only assume that the immobiliser is not disarming.
Anyone any ideas if this can be isolated/turned off or whatever or if it could in fact be some other issue.
thanks.

Check both the metal covered relays.
One is the fuel pump
One is the main relay for the ECU. They are latched, so if the main ECU relay fails, it stops the fuel pump relay working.
Does the idle control valve cycle when you switch ignition on and off? If not it is probably the main ECU relay or the immobilisor.

I had this problem with mine and someone had very kindly wired up a switch to the inside of the car to enable the fuel pump to prime....absolutely shocking.
After re-wiring the original wires and putting in a new switch (as we presumed that this had been put in to bypass the imobiliser) the pump starting priming itself without the switch.
I'd suggest, if you haven't done so already, just taking all the connections off, either cleaning up or cutting and crimping on new one's. That made mine start miraculously working again and now no need for the mickey mouse switch which had been wired up before.
