Site Relocation Rights
Discussion
Hi all, if rumours are to believed my company may be moving my lab to a new all hi tech lab some 50 miles away. Obviously the current site will close or be much downsized. I need to know where I stand contract wise. I always thought if you were asked to move to a new site over c.30 miles it was deemed excessive and you had the option to request redundancy. Is that true or at least partially true? I don't want to relocate, and would probably take reduncancy if it was on the table.
Could they just offer petrol expenses and say get on with it? any thoughts?

I have a friend and the site where he works will be closing down and he will have to move to another site. This is quite a way away. Initially he thought he would be offered redundancy, however they are paying all their employees that are moving to the new site their travel expenses and so he now does not have the option of redundancy. As he does not drive he will have almost a 2hr commute by public transport.
