I know this has been talked about before but all I really want is a clutch that will take the torque of a 500.(with a few mods)

Most of the clutches available are AP racing but only rated at 270 IB ft (was this original spec)

I don`t want a racing clutch that will give me knee ache and have no control.

I have heard of a uprated AP unit but is it suitable for a 98 Chimaera release bearing etc.

The clutch out of my car is Borg & beck, all very confusing.

Thanks Paul.

I had a paddle clutch, I couldn't stand it, maybe just me?

Fitted a standard 5.0 clutch and It's just sooooo much nicer to drive.

Think hard and decide if you really need something above a standard one which is pretty robust anyhoo.

Are the 275 Ibft ones standard or has the quality slipped a bit (no pun intended) smile

Thanks for all that info Daz,

Is that the same as the J E clutch and can the standard release bearing etc be used.

is that clutch a bit of a knee snapper..my origional clutch was heavy enough so don`t want to spoil the car.

Its not been fitted because the clutch which started smoking at the strip seems to be OK but i can`t trust it

The one listed is the next one up to what TVR POWER sell.

Haircutmike which one did you fit ? 275 or 350ftlb cheers

Its a AP RACING clutch obviously alot cheaper because i have bypassed the Engine builder or TVR specialist who likes to make there 30% cut

I would just buy the above clutch listed ,it will take some hammer .

It was probably hot and just needed a rest.

Mine smoked after 17 runs at a strip after 2 1/2 years and 30+ T/D's these after a rest was fine.

When I took it out shortly afterwards it was practically down to the rivets so its time had come, that was standard.

+1, I went for a Helix (diaphragm type) from Rob, it seems like a quality product.

No heavier than the original and it's nice & progressive.

So far so good, I guess time will tell.
