Neither Quick nor Fit

I just bought a new car and looking at the oil, it probably needs a change. So I phoned up by local garage, not named but you can probably guess from the title, and asked when they could see the car and get the oil and filter changed. They said that they would ideally need it for a morning, so on Monday I booked it in for today. The idea was that given plenty of notice they can get the parts in, set aside the time. I dropped it off at 9:15 AM this morning and went back at noon as planned, the car was in the same place and they said that they didn't have time to start it this morning as a lot of customers had come in. What makes me really angry is, none of these customers had booked I presume, they were just drop in off the street kinda people who got priority. So I took a morning off work and now need to take an afternoon off work as well as I don't have my car back, the £50 oil change is costing me much more than £50 in lost income. When it gets to 11 AM and people are still coming in asking if they can have their tyres changed, why can't these people say that they are sorry that they have a car they have to do that was booked in already. I won't be going back to these people, only went there in the first place because they offer reasonably cheap fully synthetic oil.

Take it to a proper garage, not strategically shaved monkeys. I wouldn't trust them to change a wiper blade. They have shown their respect for you already.
Go and pick up the car now before theybreak it squirt WD40 on the shock absorbers and tell you they're leaking so new suspension all round sir?. Oh and the pads are worn by 1mm from new so new discs and pads sir? Nearside front is 3psi low so four new tyres sir? Etc Etc
EFA Go and pick up the car now before they

Serves you right for being a big girl and not changing it yourself.

VW quoted £110 for this, buying the same oil myself works out more expensive and I don't have ramps, facility to get rid of the oil, the inclination to get wet outside etc i.e. I'm a bit lazy and tight fisted

The facility for getting rid of the oil is store it in the original container and then when you go to the tip take it with you, tip the oil in the bowser provided and throw the container int he general waste.
Tight fisted, its cheaper so thats easy.
Ramps, you need a jack and axle stands, jack is supplied with the car, axle stands are about £20 or borrow some, never, ever just use a jack on its own.
Wet, er do it on a dry day ?
Lazy, yes, so am I, but for me, the lesser of two evils is doing it myself with the radio on and a brew rather than trying to cajole the "Strategically Shaved Monkeys" to do what they are meant to whilst sat in their waiting room with a 20 year old readers digest for company.
Two kids under 3 is the other reason, basically my 'free time' is 9.30pm onwards when they're eventually in bed - make the most of your youth and freedom whilst you have it
I might have a go next time though early one Saturday thanks, typically change it every 5K so it'll be change time again in a few months!

Im 41 and have three lads aged 13, 15 and 16, have always done the oil changes, sometimes when they were younger they helped but now it is difficult to shift them from the X-Pox, typically whilst I was doing stuff like this my wife would attend to the kids.

It is entirely upto you but there are no reasons you have come up with that would preclude you from doing the job yourself, ok if you dont want to or see it as a bit Infra Dig then that is that but I am used to arguing with a 13 year old boy on why he cant walk the dog or tidy his room and am used to shooting down even fairly (on the face of it) plausible arguments, Nike said it best "Just Do It" !
Car was due at 1pm, was actually ready at 1.30pm eventually. They fed the car Mobil1 so (if this is true), the cost of the oil and filter change is cheaper than me buying the stuff and doing it myself but I may still do it myself in the future - thanks Wacko, I got you confused with a young guy with a similar user name.
Is it a VAG PD/tdi of some description, not sure if Mobil One is suitable for them if it is.
I took my Volvo T5 to Halfords and made a point of saying top quality fully synthy, I checked when it had been doen and was proudly told they used Magnatec, I told them that isnt fully synth, they argued and I told them to change it which they did, may well have been ok but 40 down the line is when you get issues. I do my own stuff as I have a vested interest, I got quote £200 to do some jobs on my push bike, £109 later all done by me, £91 saved and I learnt some stuff. Only any good if you enjoy it though, Ihave an old pc with internet, a beer fridge and get on with it, but I do like doing it.

If I'd have known they'd taken so long yes, bargain!
They told me that they'd ordered the part this morning at 8am and it had been delayed coming in - I asked why they didn't order the part on Monday when I booked the car in and the manager said 'we always order parts on the same day' and admitted also that if I'd just showed up without booking it then it would have probably have been done earlier.

For what it's worth, i went to one of these places recently for a tyre and was out in 10 minutes. The service was fine and they looked after the wheel. I expected the 18's to come back f
ked.
Although, i wouldnt use them for anything except tyres. They are tyre people and this is where the bulk of their money comes from.
I mean, you can buy bacon from the supermarket, but its probably better from the butchers.
If that makes sense
