Hi Peeps..Today i sat in patiently waiting for the rest of the silicone hoses to arrive that i ordered, They got here at 16.00 so i went out there to fit them, All good until i undone the hose going to the radiator overflow......The overflow spout pulls out from the neck..FFS!!!..It looks like the solder has gone as it hasnt snapped off..I have cold welded so fingers crossed it will hold..Tomorrow i will grab some araldite and slap loads of that around it as i have a drive out to watford on sunday and im not letting it ruin my bank holiday weekend...I spoke to the guys that recored the rad and they said "Oh just drain it down and get it up to us"..Er i dont think so..However next week they will pick it up and drop it off once its done as it is still under warranty..Fingers crossed..Cheers..Ziga
Mark i got your last email but phone not playing ball this evening. Dont worry about my little issue i'm in no hurry. Hope you get this sorted, as you say plans for the weekend must go ahead! One of these weekends i'm gonna come down in the wedge again and maybe even do an Ace cafe run too. Good luck.

Hi Adam..Its the overflow outlet on the radiator filler neck that joins to the expansion tank via a hose, I have read that silver solder is good for this type of repair and have reserved myself a gas soldering iron and some lead free silver solder from craplins..I will have a go at soldering it in..Not sure if i need flux as well though?...If i bodge it up its still under warranty..Its just the hassle of taking it all apart again, Its not under pressure as the rad has a non-pressurised cap so it should be ok..Cheers...Ziga
Mark, a soldering iron is not going to generate the heat in such a large piece of metal for you to melt solder in. Use a blow torch and plumbers solder to give it a go....it may work ok.
Regardless...it is an overflow remember.
How were the sausages this morning Mr Chipolata ?
(stop posting pics of bloody other cars unless they are worthy....low end porkers ARE NOT WORTHY !!!)

Hi Peeps..Well the cold weld never held it..As soon as i put the pipe on it the bugger moved..Couldnt make the park meet and probably wont be able to come to watford..Sorry chaps..
Gav..Its not just an overflow..Its the outlet on the neck of the rad which circulates to the expansion tank..The rad has a non-pressurised cap and the expansion tank has a pressurised cap..I tried pushing it in and moulding what was left of the cold weld but when i started the engine the coolant was peeing out cold so i can imagine what its going to be like under pressure..What a wash out of a w
k..Ooopps i mean bank holiday..I cant even get to craplins and they are out of stock of the gas soldering iron..
..Looks like the only option is to drain down the rad and remove it ready for collection tuesday...Id better check the receipt and make sure its still under warranty..
..Cheers..Ziga

Don't touch the the rad, other than taking it out! If you do the the rad company can claim you damaged it and charge you for the repair!
Hi Andy..They did say that even if i bodge it they will replace the neck but as you say i am just going to drain it down and let them deal with it..the warranty runs out next month so its a good job its happened now..In a strange way its a bit of a blessing as i have ordered a centrifugal pump that fits onto a drill as the matrix seems to be full of crud, I by-passed it when i replaced the hoses and was thinking of getting a spare expansion tank and filling it with rad flush and flushing the matrix only..The ford garage hasnt got any so now i will rig up mine and by-pass the cooling system, Its a bit of a downer as it ruined my weekend but on a good note it will be sorted for Ettington and any meets in between..Cheers..ZigaDon't touch the the rad, other than taking it out! Mark, patience is not your bag i know, but on this occassion, like Tank said....let them do it.
Weather is Turkish anyhow.
Sorry you wont be at Croxley, but neither will my car !!
Lets me have a drink tho !!

Hi Peeps..Right the rad is out..(Again)..and the offending item is pictured..Im going to ask if they can make the fitting longer as when the hose is fixed on the rad cap pushes down on it which could of weakened the solder!!..Im just glad it happened now and not just before the BBWF...I was also wondering about asking them to maybe fit a drain plug or some type of bleed pipe for the rad..Something like a compression fitting?..It would make it a lot easier to drain in future..Cheers..Ziga

Hi Peeps..I removed the radiator yesterday and it was picked up about 1/2 hour ago and should be back tomorrow..I painted the pulley arm and polished the wheel from the..(Dare i say it)..PAS..And im now waiting for the ole currant bun to come out so i can clean up some bits ready for the re-install..Cheers..Ziga
