My Renault Clio Cup Debut!
Discussion
Hi everyone,
I wasn't going to post this up yet as we are in the process of having a campaign video made, but I wanted to share this all with you
Basically, to cut very short, I used to race Karts from the age of 13-18, but since then I have not raced due to budget constraints. It may sound stupid but not having this passion in my life has been incredibly hard, and is one of the things which will bring a tear to my eyes, but I am incredibly proud to be able to announce that I am back, bigger and better than ever!
I had my first test day with Birmingham based team TCR, who are running Nic Hamilton, and it was fantastic! I was worried that due to such little previous experiance in karting, not to mention the fact I've not driven a car on a track ever!
But, in my final session of the morning I was absolutely flying, and was bang on the pace of top drivers who have tested there. This was a massive massive thing for me, and the team (who at this point, didn't know me from Adam) were genuinely amazed at how well I'd adjusted, and I was lapping about 8 seconds a lap faster than they originally estimated me doing as a new driver
The hard work starts now, I have been very lucky to receive initial support from www.alloygator.com who have helped me get into the car, but sadly this is not on going and the campaign must begin!
If everyone could please please like my Facebook page, and follow me on twitter and await the campaign video which MUST go BIG!
Anyway, enough talking. Photos!

Thanks for posting, was wondering if anyone would of been on here

Yea I was fairly steady in the first two sessions, understandably, but I was instructed just to push and the car gets better and better!
Don't suppose you have any track footage do you? Some chase style clips would be great for my video!

Not on either site but would be cool if you kept us at PH informed via a diary. Very interested in how you went from nothing into a fairly decent race seat as well.
I do plan to do a blog on here too, so you'll be kept up to dateThe opportunity came up by way of talking to a friend who now races in Porsche Cup, and he used to run with TCR in Clios, few phone calls later I was offered the chance to test one, lots of hard work to raise the cash to do so, cue Wednesday just gone, went far far better than we all imagined and I've now got the chance to race for them! Essentially, if you have the cash, anyone could hop into the car and have a go, it's just how well you do that makes the difference!
All the best Tom, will be following with interest as until recently I was running a previous shape Clio Cup (see profile), they're fun little cars to race. I notice you're local to me too.
Out of interest, what times were you posting at Mallory?
PS. 'Liked' on FB too.

Hi everyone, sorry for being quiet on here, but heres a little update
Since the test day, my video has been created and published, it's all over my twitter and Facebook, I can't plug it here sadly but if you do head to FB or Twitter
My profile MIGHT contain it too, but I can't be too sure.......shifty eyes.....I'm working very very hard, along with a big team of guys helping me out, to get something sorted sponsorship wise. I'm trying to be innovative, and most of all engaging for companies, but nothing is coming as yet. My media pack will be complete in the next few days so that's when the real hard work starts.....
It's currently a little demoralising, if I'm honest. I knew I was taking a huge risk putting my hard earned into this, specially at my age and not with a silver spoon so to speak. I'm keeping positive, but it's hard for me to go to watch, have access to the teams facilities, but watching someone else in 'my' car is hard.
TCR are currently waiting for Nics old car to come back from re-shell, and then I will be having my next test day. This time at Oulton, as it will be the most fresh track data they have...But until then, I can't do anything.
I'm extremely confident about having the funds for next year, but I need help, that' all. I'm only one man, but with helping hands it's allowing me to reach further! If anyone knows anyone who works for a big company, preferably in marketing, Yorkshire based would be good, and have an interest in motorsports, please do let me know.

My best time was 52.00. I was doing consistent 52.10's for 8 laps, but I was also suffering a misfire due to low fuel (I was out for 40 mins, rather than 30 as the session was extended). Previous driver Dan Lloyd did a 51.7 last year there during testing so I knew I had done alright, seeing as he'd been in the Clios for half a year or so.Edited by Mark Benson on Thursday 7th June 15:53
So, sadly, no real progress as yet, but don't worry, you'll see me out this year with Nic and the rest of them, mark my words.
Here are some photos for you all

A hugely impressive repair done on the Saturday on Colburns car, the use of filler was awesome!

Anyway, thanks for reading and your support as always is appreciated...
