Help with listing a 997.2
Discussion
Hi Guys,
I could really use some help here. I good friend owns a 997 which is coming to the end of it's 3 year lease. He can either hand the keys back or buy it for a fixed amount. As he fancies a change, I suggested we list it privately and see if we can improve on the trade in value. I listed the car but so far, the phone hasn't exactly rung off the hook.
Curious to hear your thoughts on what I may be doing wrong. Granted the colour is a bit 'Marmite', but otherwise I thought the spec, condition and price about the best out there:

Very happy to hear your thoughts on it....
Cheers

The ride height looks too high in those photos, the wheel photo looks weird especially with all that tyre black and it's making the tyres look stretched as well. I wouldn't draw attention to the fact that nearly half the miles have been as a Porsche demonstrator in the hands of multiple drivers. The rear seat pic shows a big crease in the seatpad, is the other side better? Might also be worth not excluding trade buyers from calling, it's only timewasters and canvassers you want to dissuade. HTH and good luck with sale.

I think the ride height may be like it is because its not an S.On the phone calls front, I think most people would rather buy from an OPC these days, for peace of mind regarding the history, and for the 2 year warranty. And although taking your freshly washed ride to the local beauty spot for the photo shoot makes for better pictures, I often wonder if it puts people off because they think you may have something to hide with regard to its normal home.
And it looks like somebodys had the rear seat back down for a long period of time with the seat belt and buckle trapped beneath it - ouch. I hope the leather recovers over time.
That is what it's worth to the trade, so would list at roughly what's being asked at a trader/dealer. Private buyers will want to pay less or they will just go to a dealer.
A 10 plate c4 pdk in white was on the trader recently at 43. It sold eventually and probably for a little les than 43.
2 black 08 manuals sub 20k miles were listed around 37-38 which sold in around 6 weeks.
Also people will buy a gen2 c2, but once you go to a 4, you loose the advantage of cheaper road tax, so people will just buy an s. Also most buyers looking to pay the extra for a gen 2 do it for pdk.
Private buyers with 40k and no trade in are a rarity, so the market is small, and the buyers know it.
Edited to say there's a June 10 car in silver with 7k on in the dealer network with 2years waranty etc and likely generous trade in allowance, finance etc at 49. Take 2 off for the waranty and it stands at 47 before negociating, and it's 2 years newer. From an opc!

My take is as follows...
Gen2 is great, as is the AWD '4'. My understanding is that more want the PDK as opposed to the manual, and also the 'S' model would be preferable.
Unfortunately, prices have taken a battering for numerous reasons, inc. the release of the 991, 997.2 C4GTS (pushing down C4S prices, as has already been stated), et.c..
The price-hit is painful, but the car is excellent. Personally, I totally love Ruby Red. Could your friend not hold onto the car for another two years?

Thanks for all the feedback. On reflection I guess the price was a bit optimistic and so I've reduced it by a coupe of thousand - let's see whether the phone rings !
So far as the comments on ride height go, I can assure you it's correctly set up, I thing the photos just don't compliment due to the angels of photography and the uneven ground the car was sitting on. As far as I know the 4 has the exact same ride height as the 4S.
Nothing I can do about the colour or spec. It really is a lovely car but appreciate it's 'love it or hate it' specification - different strokes for different folks, as they say! I recall driving at the Porsche Experience Centre Slverstone a Macadamia brown 911 with full zebrano wood trim inside. Now that really was 'special'!
