Speed humps have they gone to far. Every day too and from town and to work i go over 45 ish humps per day is this the norm. Has any one else have the same. Every one scraps the bottom of my car. I think the council have just gone crasy. Cause its curtainly sending me batty. Had a word with some of my Neighbors they also are a little fed up with them and 2 of them have put there house up forsale due to them. We have 16 on one rd to get out of my housing estate.

I hate them too.

Years ago when I was in the RAF, they built them all over the base I worked on, and one in particular was a bloody mountain. My crappy Mondeo with standard suspension would scrape across it, and woe betide I had anyone in the back. A mate in his lowered 3 Series had to get everyone out of the car before he could cross it!

One day after lunch I sent an email to the Station Commander (the boss of the whole base, basically God) complaining about it. The next day I got the mother of all tellings off by my boss, about how I should have used the chain of command, and although it was a well worded and polite email, I shouldn't have sent it.

I then got another less angry telling off from my Line Manager.

Later that day though, on my way to lunch I was stunned to see the speedbump had been removed!

My friends and I had a loud and very happy celebration that afternoon, as I'd 'stuck it to the man' and won.

We were less happy the following day when we saw builders putting it back, but this time smaller.

Oh well, small victories and all.

[Cool story bro]

Yes, they are a pain. Some areas have loads of them.
Almost tempted to buy a big 4x4.

I wish they had gone to far, they wouldn't be here in that case.

I drive a minibus for the disabled. I would like to get the f**kwits who get these installed in the back of the bus in a wheelchair. 5 mins of that and they would all be gone in a flash. Much prefer the priority chicanes.

It has to be said that there is something nice about being able to do 30 in 30 zone.

Friend of mine tells me he stopped the Council from putting them in his road, he told them he had a low car and it would damage his car if they did!

They don't bother me.

I've noticed that chicanes and mini-roundabouts seem to be a bit more popular these days - these actually annoy me more than speed bumps, because you sometimes have to stop, but they're probably better for the car and do just as good a job of moderating traffic speed.

Speed bumps as a control measure have been officially deprecated for some years now.

For example, as consultees on new developments the local Ambulance trust will always formally object to humps and the like for obvious reasons (- imagine trying to move an RTA patient with a suspect spine injury down such roads...)

That doesn't mean that Councils are doing anything about the ones already installed, but is humbly suggested as a robust route to help formally request removal of the ones you may suffer from wink

They bug the hell out of me, especially the small ones that are split into 2 or 3 across the road, as parked cars mean you often have to uncomfortably straddle them.

Especially bad for the old environment too given they create lots of braking and accelerating.

I used to scrape them in my old MX-5, winced every time.

They're an absolute menace round here. We have the brick platforms up to (high) pavement height which are impossible to drive over comfortably (or smashing anything delicate you may be carrying in the boot) - they also ruined the suspension on my old car, there's no way out of here onto the main road without going over about a dozen of these bds mad

I have even more reason to hate them. I clipped one some years back when riding home on my pedal bike. The uncontrolled landing caused by the forced removal of one of the handlebars by said hump (it was wet and the wheel immediately lost grip as well) smashed the top of my skull in and cracked to my right eye socket, I now have a titanium plate in my head. Luckily no other damage as the sponge inside evidently absorbed some of the impact. rolleyes

Our beloved council are STILL installing these evil things everywhere, including main roads and bus routes furious

They have to be the fking worst idea, in the history of utter fking terrible ideas!

Most of them are on roads where it isn't really possible to drive fast, there is even a set of those square edged bds near me, 3 across the road, about 10 feet before a national speed limit section. So you have to slow to a crawl to get over them and then accelerate up to 60 odd mph. And then of course the locals complain about loud cars accelerating 'rapidly' outside their houses.

They cause more wear to your cars, when big lorries go over them they can shake nearby houses to bits, they are fking annoying, they cause a lot of braking and accelerating which cant be good for the environment teacher

I find 4x4's tend to be more 'jolty' going over them compared to cars, although you do get a higher ride height. I feel the bumps far more in my bit, or my brothers Pinin than the focus, or 306 the folks have.

Blimey! Those priority chicanes at 10x worse. I find it unreal the amount of congestion they cause and aggressive driving, not to mention actually causing people to speed up! Often see people doing twice the limit so they don't have to give way etc etc.

They are a copmplete and utter pain in the fking arse. The worse thing is,that for the majority of vehicles and drivers they do absolutely sod all to slow them down.
Then for the cars which have to slow down for them ie:sporty, lowered, hard suspension cars, you then get them breaking sharply for the bumps before accelerating hard to make up time before breaking hard for the next one which is surely only going to lead to MORE accidents!

The ones near me have a large square block in the centre of each lane so when two oncoming cars try to straddle them you become perilously close together in the middle of the road resulting in many a wing mirror coming together!

IMO they do more harm than good both in causing accidents and doing damage to your car.

And as for those give way,one at a time traffic calming chicanes that seem to be popping up everywhere on perfectly safe roads........

I'm sure fewer people would buy SUVs if the councils hadn't turned smooth roads into some kind of off road course.

The irony of things in Glasgow (when I lived there) is that the roads were so bumpy and sh*t-full of potholes that no one could drive at more than 20 mphy without f*cking up their wheels/suspension anyway. Needless to say that didn't stop the trumpets in the council from installing more speed bumps.
