Has anyone experience of remaps on the 325d ? It looks like it has identical hardware to the 330d, but a "detuned" calibration. So persumably it's a simple task to remap it to 330d levels of power?

(i've found a perfcet spec car, but it's a 325d not a 330d like i really want ;-)

Apparently not the same engine: injectors and possibly turbo different, and gearbox (automatic) only rated to 450 nm rather than 700 nm of the 330d.

I'm not sure that's the case?

from BMW site:

335d: 286bhp & 580Nm
330d: 245bhp & 520Nm
325d: 204bhp & 430Nm

I'm fairly sure the 325d/330d are identical in terms of hardware? It would be a costly exercise to have two levels of component specs within the same range for very similar cars.

I've done it with a re-map and it's excellent. Auto logic or dms re-maps give great results.

Car is quick now and returns 52mpg on a run, 45 normal driving.

I have an LCI 330d coupe and my understanding is that there is no difference whatsoever in the engine and gearbox of the 325d and 330d if LCI ... only difference is engine mapping .... pre LCI they were different in quite a few ways but not LCI on ...

Is your car manual or auto? I just wonder if the 325d has a different gearbox map to the 330d?

(330d has a decent extra amount of Nm, so could hold a higher gear for longer maybe?)

This applies to the E60 but same engine and gear box as the E90 equivalent: http://forums.5series.net/topic/63905-525d-lci-com...

Auto - it's a fantastic shift and suits the engine perfectly.

Oh, also to mention I've racked up 43,000 miles with no problems thus far.

I'd like to know this..

but a quick check on remapability, the 325d maps nowhere near to what a 330d maps to so there must be a lot of differnces in hardware.

I can't comment on LCI models. be nice to see how an LCI 325d maps. If it goes to the same 300hp it will be up there on my next car list.

I had a quick rumage on realoem.com and compared Jan 2010 E91 tourers. Everything I've looked at thus far is different - short engine, DMF, man gearbox, turbo. The auto gearboxes look different too, the 330 is bigger with ribs down the sides.

e.g. Turbo

325d

330d

Man Gearbox

330d

I'd say just buy the M3 CSL and get it out of your system!!

07 plate is pre LCI therefore the old M57 engine not the nice new N57.

For anyone looking at this in 2018.

The 325d N57 engine (That bit is important) is identical to the 330d N57 with just a map being the difference. Both will map to over 300bhp at stage 1 with no other mods.

This makes the 325d a complete bargain! I think the tax and insurance is cheaper as well. I own one and it is a great car. Get the auto box with flappy paddles

Until you tell your insurer it's been mapped of course?

I had my LCI 330d E92 remapped by DMS to 305bhp. They did a 325d LCI a week before and it made 25bhp less than mine. Apparently although the engines are almost the same there is a difference in the DME (?) or that is what DMS said and that difference did not allow them to repeat the settings for the 325d LCI that they used for the 330d LCI .... that said, 275bhp would be awesome compared to 325d's power before mapping !

Out of curiosity, how much did your insurance charge for declaring remap?

Be aware some 2009-2010 E9X series are still using the older M57 engine.

E9X 325d N57 and 330d N57 are identical engine wise. They do have different front brakes.
I had an E90 325d 2010, remapped + dpf deleted, dyno'd 311hp/660nm.

Also note that automatics can take a bit more torque than the manual.

If buying a 2009-2010, do run a VIN check first to see which engine it has.
What you'd want is the N57 engine. It also sounds quite ok for a diesel.

Specifically, all LCI 325d built before March 2010 are M57.

Resurrecting an old thread but i've just had mine remapped and it made 309hp, its an LCI 325d Auto. Had the custom map done at Promap Leeds and a dyno run to confirm the power gain.
