Stack Dash set up?

I've noticed that the Stack rev counter seems to be reading more than the actual engine speed. So, to check this I bought a cheapy laser tacho off fleabay and sure enough the engine is running 1000rpm slower than what the gauge says. I've fiddled with the stack settings and set the number of cylinders to 10 from 8. The gauge now corresponds exactly with what the laser tacho says. Is this a stack quirk or is there something sinister going on?

I've just replaced the Lumenition ignition with an MSD ignition but this quirk was the same on both systems. Good news is that the engine is now running on all 8 pots with no misfiring so it seems that the MSD setup has fixed the running problems I had during testing

I've heard its a common problem...you MUST keep them below 4000rpm at all costs!!!!

My stack works perfectly when it's not deciding to reset itself to defaults!

just a thought,Check to make sure the internal battery is ok.I have recently sent mine to stack to have battery replaced as it would not hold settings and kept jumping around.worth a check, Stack told me the battery needs replacing every 5 years.

mine is 11years old now and has allways worked perfectly on all the cars its been in (quite a few now)
