Clio 197 F1

me and my Dad have just bought a 2007 Renaultsport Clio 197 F1
bought to replace the well missed 205 GTI
i have not yet seen it yet as i was working when my Dad went to have a look at it
anyway some pics

What made u chose the clio? I'd rather have a civic type r.

Steering on the CTR has all the feel of having a wk wearing an oven glove. Nice engine and 'box though but as a replacement for a 205gti it doesn't even come close.

Nice R27, make sure you get the belts done, must be 5yrs old now.

Friend of mine bought a lovely red one of these recently. We went out for a drive and it was great but the gearing was ludicrously short I thought. I may be wrong but IIRC 50mph was nearly 3k rpm in top?!

Used to have a 197, brilliant fun car.

As mentioned make sure the belts are done on time.

Check out clio197.net for lots of useful info and a great community.

Leave the decals on, you paid a premium for it being an R27, remove those stickers and it will devalue the car. Plus the stickers are bloody fortune to replace.

It will run better on 99RON, and will improve the notorious poor cold running.

Oh, and in advance of the inevitable, yes the fuel economy is terrible, even if you drive like Miss Daisy is in the back you will only get low 30's, mid/high 20's seems to be the norm.

Having driven both the honda is better package imo. Also the honda is much better built with a better engine.

Thanks mate I will have a look at that site and dealer is doing the cambelts thanks for the feedback at least someone on here likes it

What does the F1 part consist of on these?

Decals are the only unique thing, but it added the first appearance of the Cup chassis (springs, dampers, red calipers, anthracite wheels) on the 197, also standard Recaros and I think rear privacy glass but that may have been an option. Looks like this car has some additional options such as the xenons and climate.

Great car,have you driven it yet? It wouldn't break a sweat to run rings around a 205 GTI but driving feel wise is another thing thought.

And sure a much better buy than a fn2 type-R.

The F1 consists on only F1 stickers imo,the R27 is the one a bit more focused and tweaked.

That is a tiny rear caliper, 2pot i guess but looks like a single piston.

F1 and R27 are one and the same, technically there is no "F1" just R27.

Rear brakes are single pot but do very little anyway. Fronts are 4 pot Brembo's, slot in some 2 piece AP's and DS2500's and it will be truly awesome. Really easy car to drive on track, very forgiving and really chuckable. Not sure what to replace mine with to be honest.

They can get expensive as they age, lots of expensive bits can fail; manifolds, hub carriers (contain ball joints), power steering motors, etc.

I love that. Looks great. They're a proper go kart. Fantastic in the bends.

Type R might have a better engine/gearbox but that's about it!

for me the engine/gearbox is the most important single component. add in the typically french build quality and durability and the jap car wins.

Why does someone always have to do this on PH nowadays? The guy is happy with his car, so I'm sure he doesn't give a s**t what you would rather have.
