Guys

I have been considering a trip across the water for a while in the car and wondered how may people would be interested?

I am suggesting a day trip initially in July or Aug perhaps doing Dover - Calais with a route drive round perhaps stopping at the Dunkirk beaches do lunch and duty free shopping and run back to Blighty?

Just as a idea but wondered if people would be interested in joining me to fly the TVR flag?

Hi Chris

If its in late August and I am fit, I would love to come on the trip. To be on the Dunkirk Beach has always been a thing I wanted to do!

Hi chris..Its delilahs birthday on the 1st of August..It would be a real treat to take her somewhere romantic..Dunkirk sounds great..Bread..Cheese and wine by the sea..The wind gently caressing her sensuous curves..Although ill have to be careful not to get any sand up her pipes..hehe

I have been to see the beaches twice in the growler on the way back from le mans - so much to see and do you should look at an overnighter and stay somewhere like bayeaux - the cemetaries and beaches are really worth going to and dont forget the bridge .........

Hi

While we are talking about Dunkirk beaches, If anybody wants to do an orginsed trip to the Normandy D-Day beaches.
I would be happy to do the guided tour bit! I have spent many a day doing that by car, lorry and Tanks over the years!

Some great historic sights, good food and the beer is OK!

The people also have a great apprecation of the cars!

OK looks like there is a bit of interest .... Prices for the day trip crossing seem to be in the ball park of £60 for car + 2 passengers but you cannot book more than 60 days in advance at the moment (Dover - Calais)

Overnight would be great but it will push up costs and complicate the trip due to accomadation or camping etc?

Date to be confirmed but needs not to clash with other events like Le Mans etc (ideas?)

Just as a first stab I would suggest something like:

  • All meet up at the Leeds Castle Services on the A2(M) early (Fuel / Brekky?)
  • Aim for the 7.25 sailing
  • Arrive Calais meet up at a suitable location outside of the port (Any ideas?)
  • Drive route A ending at suitable location for lunch (TBc)
  • Visit Dunkirk beaches or other historic WW2 sites
  • Drive route B heading towards suitable super / Hyper market duty free or shopping (TBc)
  • Return to Calais
  • 19.30 ish Channel crossing?
  • Make way back to Leeds Castle services
Bomb bust out for home

Suggestion are all welcome having not done this before but as a priciple what do people think?
