Evening all,

Is this a brand new engine design? Two salesmen have told me different things, one said it's brand new and the other says it just has a more agressive map than the 170ps engine. I find it hard to believe that old engine would achieve the stated 58mpg (FWD), something fundemental must have changed???

Does anyone have one yet? I know it's early days, so unlikely anyone will have properly run in the diesel engine yet. But what sort of mpg are you getting from the 177ps front wheel drive engine? The Audi sales guy even suggested I won't get anywhere near the 58mpg in the book, more like 44mpg, which is very disappointing given I got 52mpg on average in the 320d I test drive, more powerful too.

Thanks in advance.

Drove an A5 with the new engine in. re-mapped not new design BTW and. I prefer the old 170 more just didn't feel right don't know why ....try them both on an AUDI weekend demo. you'll save ££££££ on an old one

Thanks for that. Fail to see how they've improved it by 8mpg with a different remap. That's annoying! So in reality, not likely to see much more than 45mpg on a run? Audi definitely seem to be lagging to BMW on the fuel efficiency war.

Not the answer but fair play for the salesman being honest to you in terms of the real world mpg...

It's an update/revision of the CR170 which was an update/revision of the PD170.

I had an A6 on a weekend test drive with this engine. Engine was very smooth, much smother than the 2.0d in the 5er in my opinion. The car was auto but the mpg was poor. I couldn't get above 39 mpg in 500 miles of driving. (this wa thru an auto box though).

Performance was adequate but nothing special but the car only had 500 miles on the clock so it was probably tight.

My biggest problem with the car though was that after 500 miles driving, the turbo went wrong and the car went into limp mode.

I have a 5er on order now....

Good luck.
