I'm biased, but the E63 is one hell of a piece of kit.
Better ride and better gearbox than the M, coupled with a lot more low down torque, just makes it a better everyday car to live with IMO.

I think it even sounds better at 'normal' driving rpm too. I'll admit the 5.0 V10 sounds glorious at high rpm though.

I'v got an E39 M5 and i'm going to buy an AMG hopefully when the times right

i took a very long test drive in an E63 AMG and when i go back in the M5 couldn't justify the 20k price difference, the E63 is a really good car and i want one badly but its just the difference in price i can't justify because the E39 M5 does everything so well

AMG's sound amazing and have a totally different class about them

ust thought to update. Selling my E63 AMG and swapping it over for a BMW 535d touring this Sunday.

Loved the AMG - great noise, image, comfort and power. Disliked the eating the fuel !! but hey that was part of the deal when getting it.

Had to change as wifes Disco3 was sold and we then wanted a caravan and the AMG would not tow (type approved) !! haha so different priorities in life for the next few years.

Spread the word for the AMG - its awesome. RIP Long live the errr diesel 535 ! !! haha

Better ride and gearbox, are you joking?.

I drove one before buying BMW, no comparison IMO, i went on from F10 M5 to M6 GC CP. Amg na.

Was he not referring to the E39 gearbox?

The M5 DCT box is perhaps the best of its type ever made.

The F10 M5 is in a different league to the E63 for people who really enjoy driving.

The gearboxes are awful on AMGs, but I believe they'll be addressing that on the new C63.

In short, the E63 is fab, but the F10 M5 is better.

No with reference to the 5.0 V10 he was referring to the terrible SMG box in the E60, not earlier or later models

Sorry, but nobody will ever convince me that SMG is a decent gearbox - oh how I wanted to like it but couldn't!

Is your E63 the n/a 6.2 V8 with the 7G Gearbox? (ie, auto with wet clutch)?
Any specs, pics or details?

I've only driven the SL63, but the gearbox on that was pretty rubbish IMO (but then I'm a self-confessed auto-hater).

Pics in drivers car forum last few days - changing it on Sunday for a 535 D

Hi Yes it is. The gearbox is a bit clunky at low speeds and when not warmed up. But when moving is good. Can adjust the speed of the changes - from a comfort to Sport to Sport + which alters how long it holds a gear and the speed of the change. Love the Sport+ changes, the blibs on down changes. But its the full boar acceleration and purbbss on upchanges are awsome.

The new 535d is very smooth in comparison. Had an E39 M5 some years ago and 335i Convert so getting back in the BMW's again. Wow F11 has been a leaps and jumps ahead of the E39 M5

Drove an e63 yesterday. Stocking engine and really really rapid. Preferred the m5 though?
